Peter Harvey of PH Designs has announced a very useful new tool to simply produce miniature bolt heads in a wide range of sizes, which looks ideal for superdetailing many areas of model aircraft, especially engines and landing gears. The tool also includes screw heads and catches, mirrored letters, plus numbers in several styles for cast-on serials.
"Here is a new product I have added to my range PHTNB1 the idea of this product is that the user places the tool on a flat surface then heat some sprue and push it into the shapes hold it there for a second or to then remove it and trim off the bolt heads with a knife and glue them to your model, the same goes for the numbers and letters on the tool."

Product Details: Nuts and Washer tool

Description: Create as many Nuts and Nut/Washers as you want for a model

Catalogue number: PHTNB1

Cost: £6.99p + £1.25 p+p

Hi Rowan, First of all, it's nice to see you back! I have a question regarding the product; I would like to order it immediatelly, but I do not understand the principle. How do you make nuts and bolts with it? Could you say more? My guess: you scribe them on the styrene, and then cut them out, right? All the best, Entoni

Thanks Entoni No, you heat the end of a piece of sprue and push it into the hole. Because the template is etched in two levels it moulds a miniature nut or washer with a bolt end projecting from it. You then need to trim the finished item off the sprue. All the best Rowan

Who in the world would think about heating a sprue and smash mold it Sounds good to me... I'll give it a try! All the best, Entoni

Hi again Well, the neat thing is that, in principle, it should do in one hit what has traditionally taken two passes with expensive hexagonal and round punch and die sets. All the best Rowan
