Those are the Brit lightnings, the castrated ones without superchargers. I thought they were releasing the P-38f?

I didn't think that any of the Lightnings which the Americans flew, were "castrated". I thought all in the Pacific and Europe and the Med, had turbo superchargers? Russell

The P-322 was never used in combat. Thankfully. We took over the British and French orders after pearl harbor. P-322B for the Brits and the P-322F for the French. The P-322s did not have turbosuperchargers and unbelievably, they did not want the contra-rotating props as well ...as per the British and French specs. Lockheed tried to tell them that without the turbosuperchargers and contra-rotating props that performance would suffer tremendously. We used them only for training in the U.S. as they were horrible machines. The RS model boxart one can clearly see that they don't have the superchargers on the top of the booms....thats cool as it looks to be accurate. A good book on the subject is: "The Forked Tailed Devil" by Martin Caidin. Also, this month's issue #14 Aviation Classics is all about the P-38. Great Reads!

I think without the superchargers they look even more sexy than the F and G models... I have been waiting for a good 1/72 small-intake P-38 for so many years, to convert it into a Brit Lightning - and here RS comes and brings me a kit. I am in Heaven!

Not sure if I am going to take the plunge on this one. I would rather build in 1/48, but I do have a 1/72 G4M2 betty. Maybe the 1/72 P-38H?
