Over 30,000 planes make the Bf 109 one of the most manufactured and at the same time most successful airplanes of its time. The first mass production version was the Bf 109E, manufactured from 1938. Original of this new type is the Bf109 of Adolf Galland, which the latter flying ace had flown as group commander of the 26th Fighter Squadron [sic] during the France campaign in 1940.
