Almost sneaking in under my personal radar comes Airfix's new-tool quarterscale Spitfire Mk. I. Not seeing any CAD views on Airfix's site, I made the mistake of assuming that their forthcoming release would be a re-box of their existing kit. However, word via e-mail today confirms that is indeed a new-tool - the perfect Battle of Britain stablemate for their exciting new Hurricane Mk. I and, of course, just the ticket to keep Mal happy!
Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I 1:48 - Kit #A05126 comprises 151 parts (almost double the count in the old kit) and includes decals for 3 x marking options.

The new kit is due for release at the beginning of February - priced just £16.99 in the UK.

Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AEROSCALE.

aaah.. Airfix! What a evocative brand! I still remember my first Spitfire in the classical 1/72 trasparent plastic envelope of the Sixties, built with liters of glue. A true birth of love for many seasoned modelers like me.

But it is true that you just can't have too many Spitfires and Airfix seem to agree I will probably purchase both of these although I stopped building in 1/48 Isn't that artwork particularly good?

Mal, As soon as I read Rowan's remarks, I remembered that you've moved to strictly 1/32 & 1/34 scales. But I'm still a 1/48 scale devotee, and it must might be the time to build something besides USA aircraft. Joel

Although true Joel, apart from 1/34 scale, I've never built anything in that scale? I will probably get the Spitfire and Hurricane. I have built the earlier Hurricane by Airfix and it was very accurate. With modern tooling and design and with similar accuracy these will be well worth having. I do have several 1/48 scale kits left and I was gifted the Eduard Royal boxing of their Spitfire IX so I will be building in 1/48 in the future

Hi again The Spitfire's on sale now on Airfix's website. There was an answer-phone message from my LHS waiting for me when I got home from work today, so I reckon the Spit's waiting to be picked up in the morning. All the best Rowan

I have been thinking about building a model of Geoffrey Wellum's Spitfire for the auction at the Mullion havest festival annual auction (a painting of his Spit goes for between £500-£600 every year!) and this could just be the ticket for an annual build in aid of the RNLI For thos e that don't know Mr Wellum lives in Mullion

Hi Mal As I hoped, it is was the Spit arrived. I've had a quick look through the parts and it looks a brilliant kit! I'm seriously tempted to go straight back and buy another before they sell out. All the best Rowan

Ahhh... you answered my previous question. Sincé i'm heading over to London at the end of this month, I might just treat myself... What else have Airfix re-tooled in 48th?
MAR 10, 2015 - 03:57 PM
Hi Jim It shares some parts with the previous new-tool Mk.V, but it's basically all-new. By the time you come over, the new Hurricane might be available too. All the best Rowan
