Freedom Model Kits have sent us details of their second aircraft model. This time the subject is the Northrop F-20 Tigershark.

The Tigershark represented the ultimate development of the F-5 light fighter concept aimed at providing a cheaper alternative to front-line types - especially for foreign air forces - but failed to find buyers as export restrictions were lifted in the 1980s.

Kit #18002 is due for imminent release worldwide. Shown here are box art and colour schemes, along with a quick assembly of an early test-shot.

Ooooohhhh! One of the most aesthetically pleasing airframes - from all aspects - every created! A sweet fighter, too. In 1983 at Williams AFB I got to sit in one and talk to Darrell Cornell, Northrop's chief test pilot. He told me interesting facts about F-20's capability vs F-16 that, as incredible as F-20 was, answered why USAF didn't want it.

The last of the F-5 series, and I believe the only one that was never used by any foreign air force, and with the project cancelled, never will fly for any service. Just seams like a strange offering with limited appeal unless one is interested in prototypes. Joel
