I received an interesting email today from Alan Griffith, President of AMtech Models. Seems there has been a lot of speculation by the modeling community on rumors of a new P-40B/C and Mr. Griffith wanted to lay those rumors to rest.
The following is quoted in its entirety from the email I received from Mr. Griffith:
"Recently there was a great deal of speculation and rumor about AMtech doing an entirely newly tooled 1/48th scale P-40B/C.
Since that time we have had a constant stream of phone calls and emails asking if this is true. While it is our practice neither to confirm nor deny such rumors, the level of inquiries have gotten to the point that I feel it important to share our plans on this particular item.
Yes.
We are doing a completely new 1/48th scale P-40B/C planned for next year. This kit will be new from the ground up, with the same fit and finish that you've come to expect from us from our Ta-183. We will also do an X/YP-37 for the X-Kits by AMtech line. Our designer has probably the most complete set of original Curtiss factory information in the world, plus our photographs and measurements of one of the existing P-40B/C's. Mockups of both kits, plus our new tool 1/32 scale announcements (total of six kits) and 1/48th scale (three new tools, not counting the P-40B, and some very cool new versions of other kits) will be displayed at the RCHTA show this September. Prices, release dates, and stock numbers have not yet been determined for any of these kits yet. SO DON'T ASK!!
The designer of this kit is one of the true masters of the craft. Among his creations over the years are the Monogram 1/48th P-47D Razorback, P-51D, B-26, F-105, F-102, the AMT 1/48th A-20 and 1/72nd KC-135 series, and the former AccurateMiniatures IL-2 Shturmovik. As a matter of fact, he is also doing the plans for the new XP-40Q-2 from X-kits by AMtech that will be out later this year. He is also working on a number of other projects for us that will be shown at the RCHTA show in Rosemont, IL in September.
THOSE we aren't going to tell you about."

Certainly, this is exciting stuff to here. This announcement probably won't quelch the desires of the aircraft modelers but will surely give us something to look forward to from AMtech Models.
