Anigrand Craftswork have released a resin Sikorsky VS-44A / JR2S-1 1/72 flying boat.
In December 1939, American Export Airlines hoped to regain the Pam Am Clipper routes. The company contracted with Sikorsky for the design and engineering of a commercial version of the XPBS-1 flying boat. Three aircraft were produced and they were named Excalibur, Excambian, and Exeter. The first VS-44 made its first flight in January 1942. It was faster and had a longer full-payload range than the Boeing 314. After the VS-44 went into operation, it made several new world records. Due to the intervention World War II, the three VS-44’s were requisitioned for military service and were given the Navy designation JR2S-1. They continued flying between New York and Ireland, carrying passengers, freight and materiel. After the war, the two remaining VS-44s continued to fly until the Exeter cashed in 1946 and the Exambian was damaged in 1969.
The contents include 69 resin parts, clear resin canopies and decals. The model span is 524 mm and the length is 335 mm. Two stes of markings are included including Excambian [41881] or U.S. Navy scheme as illustrated.
