Scale Aircraft Conversions [SAC] has released replacement white metal undercarriage struts for the Wingnut Wings 1/32 scale Albatros B.II and Sopwith Camel.
It is always worth considering attaching after market metal undercarriage parts particularly on large models. Scale Aircraft Conversions latest releases should add some strength to a notoriously weak area of many large plastic kits:

Albatros B.II Landing Gear
For: replacement for 1/32 Wingnut Wings
Type: White Metal
Stock Number: 32116
Scale: 1/32

Sopwith Camel Landing Gear
For: replacement for 1/32 Wingnut Wings, all variants. This release includes main struts for early and late style landing gear.
Type: White Metal
Stock Number: 32117
Scale: 1/32

If you have never used white metal before Scale Aircraft Conversions has a useful guide to its use:

-Since styrene cement has no effect on white metal, parts should be attached using CA glue (e.g. Superglue). We recommend using a thicker "gap filling" CA where parts need time to be positioned. Once in place you can use an accelerator to bond the parts instantly. These products can be found where ever hobby supplies are sold.
-A set of miniature files comes in handy for removing mold parting lines while fine gauge wet-or-dry sandpaper aids in further "clean up" and polishing areas that represent polished steel.
-A variable speed rotary tool can be useful for detailing certain areas. Just be careful not to grind on your fingers and ALWAYS wear eye protection. I knew a guy once that ... ...
-Paint will adhere directly to white metal parts. However, a light coat of primer first will guarantee adhesion of the paint.

I really don't know why modellers waste their money on SAC 'metal' undercarriage sets as the ones I have tried before were simply a soft pewter style metal that bent alarmingly whilst cleaning up and offered no real advantage over the kit parts whatsoever and with actually less detail. Perhaps their non WW1 sets are better than those I tried and junked however having built a number of WNW kits now, the kit parts are perfectly robust and solid enough as the finished kits even in 1/32 are hardly big and heavy anyway. My idea of a metal u/c set that serves a real purpose is the jewel like AMK set for their 1/48 MIG 31 which was a great improvement and investment due to the quality of the metal u/c set itself and the much improved stability in supporting the weight of such a big model. That said - each to their own. Gary

I would like to know if these really are beneficial. I have built only one WNW kit (Se-5) and the undercarriage was not as strong as I would have liked, so there may be a need for metal ones-- if the metal is not soft and bendable.
