Airfix has released an update on their website of the 1/48 Supermarine Walrus Mk.1. It includes build images and marking options.
There looks like there will be three marking options:
-Supermarine Walrus Mk.I, P5658 AQ-M, No.276 Squadron, Royal Air Force Harrowbeer, Devon, England, 1944
-Supermarine Walrus Mk.I, L2228 ‘Spotter of Spartivento’, No.700 Naval Air Squadron, Royal Navy, on board HMS Sheffield, 1941.
-Supermarine Walrus Mk.I, X9515 FK-A, No.5 CF (Fleet Co-operation Squadron), Royal Australian Air Force, Australia and New Guinea, early 1943.

The rather stunning looking build is by Mr Jim Bren. The rigging instructions is a great inclusion. The new 1/48th scale Supermarine Walrus Mk.I is currently scheduled for a July release.

Hi Tim Nice! It's restored my faith after the shock of the Sea Fury pictures. Having worked in the old Saunders Roe plant that built Walruses, I feel almost duty bound to get one some day. All the best Rowan

Waxing poetic Jessica? I'm certainly eagerly awaiting it's release however I'll be building the Smer kit as well using the Airfix as a template for it's innards. Diego what can you do with the old Classic Airframes kit? Why build it of course it's still a great kit. I know your question was rhetorical but I felt like answering it anyway lol!

I feel inspired to build my first biplane for a looooong time. I looked at the box art for the Walrus and felt that surge of anticipation while in Woolies deciding which kit to build next. It was not a case of which was my favourite aircraft, but which was the most exciting Roy Cross illustration on the lid or wrap around. This lid illustration is giving me the same goose bumps.

In fact I wrote that (slightly differently) for the Smer kit which I built a while ago in a forum elsewhere on the internet. Can the Smer kit be built? You be the judge:

Is this where people come to say "I wish they would do this in xyz scale"?
MAY 12, 2017 - 04:11 AM
Yes Jessica funnily enough I've read that particular article and I'm also a member of that other site. Your article showed up when doing a search for the kit in Google amongst others and I think that with a little effort a nice example of the type can be built from it. But Airfix's kit should quite stunning when built and I look forward to seeing your results with the kit when you get to build it.

Actually Matt with there being kits in 1/72 1/48 and 1/32 I think it's more I wish somebody would release a "new" kit of it, thank you Airfix!

Hi Tim It's a tough call comparing this artwork with the best from a classic artist like Roy Cross. Times and outlooks have changed so. Thinking back to 1965 (or thereabouts), I'd have probably moved on to the next kit on the shelf at Woolworths because nobody was shooting at anybody in the picture (I was only 6 years old). Those were the days! All the best Rowan

I agree, the RC painting ( and all of his) are gorgeous. The new "digital are not bad though. And this one tells a story which in my opinion sells the model. I only hope the model has some figures. That high lights any kit (scale, size, imagination)(how can you imagine yourself in one (as I did as a kid) if you cannot put yourself in one. Right now It seems only Airfix sells to the younger 5+ modeler. But I am observing This looks like s wonderful kit. Captn Tommy PS I think my dad (PB4Y England 1943-44) told me he had a flight in one of these ... I must look in his log book. He mentioned it when he saw me build the Airfix Walrus ... Long ago and far away. CT
