DN Models have released a interesting camo scheme mask set for a Venezuela Flanker in 1/48th scale.
Camouflage Paint Masks for Su-30MK2 Venezuela Flanker 1/48th
Suggested scale - 1/48th
Suggested kits - Su-30 1/48 HobbyBoss
Price - $23.99
SKU - 48/827-066
Re-usable die-cut camo mask set – All versions featured in #83212 are included
The set includes three sheets of masks (shown in the picture). The masks are made from thin masking tape, which is easy to be peeled off and doesn’t leave any stains. The tape is tested on clear and painted model too. If carefully removed after painting, they can be used over and over again. Material is flexible and easily applied over curved surfaces. Semi-transparent for easy and accurate placing.
Venezuelan Flankers were among the first export Su-30s delivered to a foreign country.
The Su-30MK2 variant, designed specifically for Venezuela, shows very attractive dark- and light-gray camouflage scheme. It resembles the Arctic Blizzard camo seen on the Su-27SMK, however it is lighter in appearance.
The Venezuelan Air Force showed several different anniversary variants, that feature this same scheme, with differently painted vertical stabilizers /only outside areas/. They are painted in Venezuelan flag colors and feature emblems and starts. Those can be found in the form of decals from various decal makers.
The Su-30Mk2 has different vertical stabilizers compared to the standard Flankers. The fins are slightly bigger and have flat tops, while on the Su-30 used by other countries, the tip of the vertical fin are with sloping tips.
The other noticeable difference between the different Su-30s, is that Su-30MK2 lacks the canards seen on the Russian /and others/ versions. Venezuela uses its Flankers for various missions, from maritime patrols and anti-ship tasks, to air-to-air missions and combat air patrols. The decision to get that specific version was based on the specifics of the Air Force concepts in Venezuela.
Flanker Camo Schemes from 21st century represent a whole new concept demonstrated by the Russian manufacturers towards the export presentation of their products. Su-35 with their splinter schemes, as well as Su-30 Blizzard camouflages and MiG-29 Arctic splinters are various examples for the new approach towards military airplane painting.
