MPM Productions have sent us their April 2010 Newsletter. If 1:72 is your scale and if you like twin engined WWII aircraft, you will be happy. There is also a nice 1:48 Seafire II kit in the list.
Dear Customers,
As I wrote in previous newsletter, new 1/72 scale MPM Prodction A-20B/C Havoc (Boston Mk.III) kit is here. Below is thorough description, we're releasing both US and British versions together.
1:72 scale
- A-20B Havoc “MTO” - MPM - 72557
A-20B Havoc was the first mass produced version that was accepted by US Air Force. USAF deployed their Havocs mainly in Africa, Italy and Pacific. Our kit's camouflages involve havocs from 47th Bomber Group that operated in Mediterranean Theatre of Operations. The decal options consist of three machines. The first is machine no.17 with non-standard camouflage that operated in Africa. The camouflage consisted of base Olive Drab with plenty of sand blotched applied by units' mechanics. The other two machines are camouflaged in Olive Drab/ Neutral Grey. Lady Jean, which flew in Africa, except of the name also, sports unit's logo (skeleton hand and skull) and USA national flags. The last machine “Miss Burma” flew in Italy. It sported mission record and 86th Bomber Squadron logo on starboard below the canopy.
The kit contains five sprues with plastic parts and one sprue with injected clear parts.
- Boston Mk.III “RAF & SAAF Service“ - MPM - 72559
Except the clear part and decals this kit corresponds with 72557 A-20B kit. The decal options consist of two RAF and one SAAF machines. The first machine is AL290/OM-K. This “K for King” sported a painting of king in heavy amour below the canopy. The second machine is AL693/RH-U that sports mission record logos below the canopy. The decals offer both older and newer version of national insignias for this machine as the reference photos show it. The South African machine AL683/V fought in Africa; therefore unlike the previous machines it sports
desert camouflage.
- Blenheim Mk.I „Finnish post war service“ - Special Hobby - SH72202
Finland purchased Blenheim bombers even before the outbreak of the World War 2 and additional machines were license built. When the war has ended some of them served as liaison and target towing aircraft. These machines were considerably modified. We chose two machines for our limited series kit; they are BL-106 and BL-173. The post war machines are interesting by their German provenience radio sets, non standard air intakes modified from Bf 109G fighters; instead of the semi retractable gunner's turret only astro-dome was fitted. The real gem are the propeller spinners of different lengths used on port and starboard engines. To add more, both machines were heavily weathered and BL-106 also chipped off. It's clear that Finnish post war Blenheims are really winning.
The kit contains three sprues with plastic parts, one sprue with injected clear parts, vacu-formed astro-dome, resin and photo-etched parts.
- Blenheim Mk.IF „Short nose fighter version“ - Special Hobby - SH72205
Unlike the previous limited series kit offers post war Blenheim, this limited series kit offers Blenheim from the beginning and the first half of the World War 2. The plastic parts are identical to the previous kit; resin and photo-etched parts are different. Decals included contain L1426/RX-M from RAF No. 25 Squadron with black and white lower sides, overall black K7159/YX-N from RAF No. 54 OUT that was also used by Czechoslovakian aviators and K7177/VT-N in desert camouflage that operated from Crete.
1:48 scale
- Supermarine Seafire Mk.II „Torch & Avalanche“ - Special Hobby - SH48102
The first big Seafires combat assignment was during two big landing operations in MTO, Operations Torch and Avalanche. Though it was hampered by landing troubles the combat qualities were non impeachable.
Seafire Mk.II kit contains seven sprues with plastic parts, including two propeller types, injected clear parts, resin and photo-etched parts, self adhesive foil to create strengthened fuselage plate and decals for three machines. Two of them participated during Operation Avalanche. Machine with S-A codes sports toothed mouth with eyes nose art, M-8 machine is interesting by its repair traces. The third machine participated during Operation Torch and can be built in two appearances. It is here with the first Seafire to score the first victory.
