Aviaelogy have sent us details of their first hardcover book – Volume One of a detailed study of Early Canadian Miliary Aircraft.
"ECMA v1 Offer and Features
Nearly 300 pages, filled with readable narrative, rare photos, colour artwork, and summary data.

Quite literally years in the making, John Griffin and Tony Stachiw's Early Canadian Military Aircraft (ECMA) series has finally taken up residence at Aviaeology. Volume 1, covering 7 of the series' 58 subject aircraft types has just left the printers on route to our little warehouse, and the production team is hard at work putting the finishing touches on Volume 2. Work on Number 3 is pretty advanced as well!

Each aircraft type is given its own nicely formatted chapter (see the web page HERE for the complete list.) Academic and armchair historians alike will enjoy the year-by-year coverage, summarizing individual aircraft careers, where known, from their initial uncrating through to final disposition. This narrative is loaded with references to aircrew names; some famous flyers of The Great War, and some who would go on to Air Force stardom in the Second World War and beyond. This part of each chapter is loaded with photos, many of which were restored especially for inclusion in this book.

The second part of each chapter catalogues in great detail the paint schemes and markings variations worn by each type. Andrew Tattersall's multi-view schematics grace this portion of the coverage, which is completed by the authors' findings on finishing materials and markings specifics. The historically minded with an interest in the airframe-technical aspect may appreciate this section, while artists, restorers and model makers will find it of particular value.

The appendix section features facsimiles of relevant period documents on aircraft finishes, including colour chip research, line drawings of alphanumeric character styles, maps, and scale plans of each aircraft type. Fully indexed (including places, people and individual aircraft by registration/serial).

During the pre-order offer period (ends June 16th 2011) readers can get their copy direct from us for a full 12% off of what will be the normal retail price of $59.00. "

Thanks for the review, Rowan. Being I'm a Canadian modeler with a newly aquired taste for early aviation, this publication is right up my alley. Just finished ordering a copy.
