After going through some boxes of old PE sets, I finally found my 1/32 Tom's MW German Machine Gun fret. To my dismay, the jackets do not fit the Wingnut Wings Parabellum. The jackets are shorter than the barrel. Obi-wan, what shall we do?
You may have to do one of two things my Padewan.
A, Butt the fretted jacket against the round retainer plate on the breech surrounding the kit barrel. The plate can be any thickness you need to make up the difference.
B. Add thickness to the breech plate and the end cap by using slices of the plastic originals and have then fit slightly inside the fretted jacket for additional support.
But never use the force, as it crumples brass bits.

Karaya has a "new set" of PE gun details available. For those who are PE challenged (and even if you are not) the machine gun cooling jackets for these are "pre-rolled" which takes out a step and really makes them user friendly to detail PE guns.
The Spandau set has a set of resin molded muzzle flash supressors included so you dont have to fuss with carefully cutting off and using the kit muzzles. Each set also has a pair of striaght metal tube Pieces which are used as the "Gun Barrels" inside the Rolled PE "Cooling Jackets'

The rolling part is enough to make me say "uncle" and go for this upgrade, though Roll Models is listed as their US outlet, and they don't have the 1/32nd sets on their website.

Bill: If you
[email protected] he can order them for you. If they are available he can get them. He may have a stash of Tom's PE stuff too. It has been awhile since I have been to his house, but he used to have a ton of PE, not sure if he had any Toms or not, but he just may. With the renewed interest in WWI subjects in 1/32nd he has been keen on getting new stuff. I know for certain he has a lot of Copper State Models stuff.
Good luck

Not sure what you mean John. Everything here on page 1 & 2 is meant to point you in the right direction. What specifically are you looking for?

Wouldn't it be best to:
1) heat the piece, shape it.
2) reheat the piece, quickly cool it?

With Brass - Yes! - but i have found that you can skip the last part, as the found shape in it self is quite strong and can take e reasonable amount of abuse.
Did the WNW brass by heating it first - a must to get it really round - when glued on to the MG, its actually quite strong.

I also annealed the brass jackets in a candle flame this time. It makes life a lot easier in forming them around a drill bit to get them round. If you don't you end up with it mostly round with a flat bit either side of the join (which is what happened last time I tried).
It also makes it easier to straighten them out when you drop them on the floor and squash them. I wonder how I know that...

I concur wholeheartedly with Terri's statement, and would also like to pick up a couple of these. Is there a website where they can be ordered from?
Thanks for posting these Stephen.

Those are simply beautiful.. I suddenly find myself wanting a real one to display with every aircraft that came equipped with them. I sure hope that's normal...

These differ from tradtional 2-D Photo Etched Barrels which generaly have to be bent into a cylinder shape. These are "Milled" Brass tubes which are cut and hollowed. This set includes the Barrel and Cooling jacket in addtion to Milled Flash Suppressors which PE sets would either cast out of resin or expect you to cut off and re-use the kit part.
MASTERNow I spent some time this evening building theses and some Karaya and Tom's Modelworks brass gun sets for some 1:32 kit builds I have on the desk.
Being etched from brass tubing. No seams. They go together in about 20 minutes. But unlike Karaya there are only enough for one in the Parabellum sets (the 14 & 14/17 ). There are two items in the Spandau set. More later.

I combine several spare kit parts to try to get the closest look of a Parabellum and as can be seen in the image below the look is ok but still needs some refining to be more in -scale.
The Mirage Parabellum ammo reels are "put together" with a scrap section of sprue. The plasitc reels could be used but require work that can be left alone if the scrap is used instead.
