Some progress. I have finished the camo and it worked reasonably well, not 100% happy but it could've been a lot worse. The lighting wasn't good enough to take photos of the latest progress, will post tomorrow.
It's going to be a tight squeeze getting this finished in a day. I've decided not to do the battle damage, as it would take time and I might ruin the model trying to rush.
Just doing finishing touches on the diorama:
And landing gear:

After a lot of hard work squeezed in before and after school, I've managed to get this much done:
However, I've missed the deadline of getting it to J. Greenwood by his birthday. Oh well, never mind. I rang him and told him I will come on Saturday, but he still doesn't know why! So I've got and extra two more days to get it done!
Tomorrow, I will hopefully have the markings done, put a coat of future followed by decals and then begin the weathering process.

sorry you didn't get done in time for the b'day, but all the same I guarantee it will be enjoyed!
Can I contract you to build me a Dio base? that thing is simply amazing! I really don't have any of the materials to do something of that caliber, and being that I'm at school too, I hardly have space for the tools I have now!

Hi all,
I started adding decals and landing gear this morning. I don't think I put enough future down for the decals as I still have a little bit of silvering.

OK Final Pictures
I turned up at John Greenwoods house today, was almost attacked by his dog while holding the diorama in my hand. When John opened the door and saw it, I think he was pretty happy as he recognised the aircraft and said that it brought back memories. I labelled the diorama 23rd Nov. because that was the day while flying low he hit a vulture, which put a gaping hole through the wing root. This dio shows the Hurricane in the morning before that flight!
There are a few things that I have left out, like the antenna wire and canopy mirror. I'm going to enter the model into a show late this year so I will add these things on before-hand. I just had to get the model to him today!
Thanks to all those who followed this build and commented. Thanks Aeroscale for having me and I'll be back soon!

Well, I guess it's alright, I mean, it is on a nice base and all.....
.... oh, right, april fools was tuesday. My bad.
No Chas, It looks great. To be completely honest, you have to have a very trained eye to even tell it's not 48th scale. I think it looks great, and I really like how you've weathered it. and, yeah, I like the base! Good job!

Very nice indeed! I like the fact that this a/c was based in India too. That diorama is just awesome and really compliments the Hurricane.
Good show!

Thanks Alex.
Yea it was fun to do groundwork a little bit different from the typical grassy or concrete fields of England/ Europe.
Thanks for following along,
Chas

Looks great Chas,,well done
I hope your going to be do a feature on how you make your bases.
The weatering and exhaust stains look really good, and if I had to pick anything to nitpick about I would say that the wheels are a bit wonky.
Really nice all round project ,,Im sure youve bought back a lot of memories for John Greenwood

Hi Nigel,
Thanks for your valued opinion. Yes hopefully a feature on the bases will be coming soon. As for the wheels, I agree they are slightly wonky, they were very hard to make fit properly. The wheels were pushed into that angle by the landing struts. I suppose I should have sanded them down for a better fit, but whats done is done

Hi Chas
I picked this thread up late but so glad I did.
A whole feature within a thread....hmmm....great graphics and a big help for others who wish to try something similar.
I suppose your little helpers are now sleeping it off.
And yes...its excellent news you intend to do a 'real' feature on making bases.
I look forward to it.
Thanks a mill.
Cheers
Peter

Hi Chas,
Excellent all round presentation mate!
I envy your enthusiasm you have across the various modelling genres.
A tip albeit small , if you tackle a similar project , i find it it best to coat the inside of the base with a sealant of some kind to stop the plaster from separating from the wood.
Keep up the good work digger,
Shay

G'day,
Thanks Claude!
Shay, thanks, I did get a little bit of separation on this base. I wasn't sure what to do to stop it, so I tried to cover it up with vegetation. It obviously didn't escape your sharp eye! Next time I will get hold of some sealant.
Thanks once again,
Chas
