Greetings Mark;

Be sure to check the alignment for the top wing here. Eduard Hanriot kits have been noted to need the rear locator hole opened up or widened. This is so you won't have alignment problems later.

Stephen,

Thanks for the heads up. That's exactly what I had to do with the top wing.

I used All Clad II, then buffed it out with some Aluminium buffing compound. Sealed it with future.

My Bio was back in the middle of page 2 of this thread. If you live in Indiana, I would appreciate your vote

Just a quick update..

I decided to paint the fuselage and wings a light grey............

The kit decals were much too thick to conform to any curves so i decide to mask and paint them and include a red cowl................

More later,

I actually got a little more done to the Hanriot today. I wanted to try a couple of new paints and techniqes with this model. I wanted to try to bring out the rib detail with out masking so I sprayed a coat of light grey over the entire fuselage and wings and then gave a very light coat of a darker grey. Then I sanded over the rib detail with a very fine grain sanding pad. Here's the results.....

And I attached the top wing.......

Very nerve racking but it's finished. I tried Model Master Acryl for the first grey coat, it went on very grainy and really gummed up my airbrush. I think I'll stick with Tamiya to finish it out. Floats will be next.

more later,
Mark

I have now applied the extra decals I got from the Hasegawa kit I bought. They look quite nice and fit my little story perfectly.

As a personal marking I decided to add a decal of a pin up girl in front of a US star from the spares box. The pin up looks like my girlfriend named Dorthe - although my girlfriend might have slightly shorter legs I painted "Dazzling Dorthe" across the decal to add a personal touch.

Next is some final touches, a little weathering and a a semi gloss coat. More to follow....

Great job Jesper. I am sure Dorthe is happy with you imortalizing her on a public forum.

I am all futured up on both my current builds. I hope to print up some decals today. They are already designed. I just need to size them and hook up the laptop to the Laser printer. But right now I am covered with cats. They seem to love it when I am in my Lazy-boy.

Here's some more progress. After I had it half rigged it took a fall to the floor knocking off the wing and struts. I'm back on track now and have a little of the rigging and some touch up to the struts left to do so I hope to have it completed by Sunday. I'm going to attempt to create my own decals for this build.................we'll see..........................

Jesper that artwork just makes you grin like an eight year old does it not?

Well, the wing is back on with all the rigging . Hopefully it won't get dropped again.

Looking very symetrical......I like it when disasters turn to success....

I will sleep well tonight.

Thanks for the comments, Carl and JP. I thought I might just go all the way if I made a personal marking.

Mark, that rigging looks great. I am very impressed by the rigging job which has kept me to WWII and later so far.

Here is my finished entry for this campaign. My 1/48 Fujimi A4E Skyhawk named after my girlfriend Dorthe. The payload is two fixed 20mm guns, two zuni rocket pods with four rockets each and two large napalm tanks.

Here is my fictive and slightly schizophrenic history

I started serving in the infantry with the Marines. Later I applied for a pilot career and was accepted. After finished pilot training I started my active career with VMA-211 in March 1964. Here I flew the A-4E Skyhawk in El Toro, California until deployed to Chu Lia in Vietnam in May 1965. Here I flew many ground support missions – both north and south of the DMZ. I flew 188 combat missions dropping a total of 400.000 lbs of ordnance in three separate tours in the period 1965 to 1970. Twice I returned with combat damage to my bird. I was awarded the distinguished flying cross and the Vietnam Service Medal.
My bird had a personal marking and the text “Dazzling Dorthe” named after my girlfriend Dorthe.

So what does Dorthe think about it? And does she really cary a pink rifle around with her?

I will show it to her on Friday - I mean the aircraft I think she will actually think it is funny.

She does not have a pink rifle and she does not really need one, as sometimes her eyes shot lighting - at least it feels that way..

Hi all,

thought I'd chip in with some pics of where I'm at with my entries. I joined this build part way through but it fits nicely with a project I have on - building some cheap 1/48th aircraft up to be used for airwargaming.

As such the builds are a bit more on the fun side rather than full on model builds but I hope they still can fit in. In all I've got about 12 aircraft to finish but will probably enter at least the following in the campaign, SpadXIII, Pfalz DIII, DH2, although I have a Camel, SE5A and Albatross underway also so may sneak in a couple more as I go.

As mentioned the kits are cheapies, SMER and Glencoe, chosen for hopefully fastbuilding and lack of price if/when they get knocks during gaming. I'd rather see a $10 SMER kit crash to the ground than a $40 Roden or Eduard.

Firstly the SpadXIII which is finsihed (inc a wip shot to show the progression) and some wip shots of the others ...........

cheers
Brent

Looks good, Carl.

However, the "Joltin' Josie" decal seems to have some glue or airbubbles left on the backside/background? or is this the way it should look?
