Thank you for that Steffen,

I think I'm gonna try to put the black rear chevrons on if I can. It does look really cool and a bit different. Plus I am unable to find a picture of this exact aircraft (although I have ordered a book which contains info on KG100's sea operations)

As it's my birthday next month I may well pop that book above on my list as people keep asking me what I want and I tell them I have no idea!!

Thank you once again.

Hello Howard

this is maybe not the best book to start a Luftwaffe collection. I thought more of a visit to the library.

If you want to do more Luftwaffe aircraft in the future I would suggest Kenneth Merricks "Luftwaffe Camouflage and Markings, 1933-1945" (2 vols plus photo book) e.g. have a look at amazon (also the market place offers, they are sometimes significantly cheaper).

greets

Steffen

Alright!! More progress.

I finished off all the main codes on saturday night which I'm pretty happy with:

I also sprayed the underwing crosses which have come out pretty well. I think they are a touch too much one side but I can live it.

For the hell of it I masked up and sprayed black rear chevrons as per the pic further up on this page

Came out reasonably well I think, for a newb anyway

I have also started the swastika's with the black going down tonight. I try to finish them off tomorrow night and then I can start some light weathering before I gloss it up for the remaining decals.

Hope you like it anyway.

Howard

That looks really good, much better than decals. It's gut to be more satisfying too.
Mal has anyone used your masks for 1/72?

Hello Howard

very nice!. The Balkenkreuz tilt is not a big problem IMO but I have a nit pick (again) .

I think the forward black line is only missing on the pylon but it is there on the wing and I think it is maybe a cm too far outboard (the pylon is mounted at the two holes right?)

anyway .. hope you finish the beast soon

all the best

Steffen

Hi Steffen, yes I did think I got them in slightly the wrong place sadly. I will live with it as it took me an age to get those crosses set anyway

Oh yeah I see what you mean about the chevron, didn't notice that at all!

Hmm might just lay those on aswell then

Looking very good Howard.
Ive got to use to decals on my latest build and to be quite honest Id rather be using masks.

Cheers Lampie The masks are bloody good aren't they!

Thank you Steffen I see what you mean on the HS now. That nose profile is quite different isn't it!

Yes, the pinoccio nose is the main problem ... I think you cannot spot the others. Maybe the intake to the "Kärcher Ofen" and the heatpipe back to the rocket are a nice touch (2nd pic lower right)

Yes I see what you mean. The intake in the wing would be a cool thing to add but I don't have any plasticard to make it. Maybe on my next HS equipped model I will try to build things like that in.

I will definately be trying to wire up the aerials on it though.

Those pics are really good Steffen, are they from the German Air dropped weapons book?

No they are from the instructions of the resin Hs 293 by Andreas Duda (also got wheels, engines and props and ailerons from him plus Hecker & Goros crew .. still need a c&m for a known crew (preferably for Aufhammers "Egret" mission ... I can dream)

Bah!! I just bought Sea Eagles Vol 2 by Chris Goss (classic Colours) as the blurb says it has information about KG100's attacks in the med. I'd hoped there would be more Do 217 pictures and information in it but alas it has the same pictures as in Kampffleiger and a page about the attack on Warspite and Valiant!

Darn it

Hi Howard

Sadly pictures of Do 217 are rare, even more of operational Do 217 E-5 .. remember, the controlled glide bombs were high tech and top secret. (IIRC most published are from the Nowarra collection) There is a nice story in LiF edition 6 but also no new pix ... sadly.

Lets say there was a vet who took some pix that were not thrown away by the relatives after his death or stolen or bought by picture collectors (to be buried forever in their archives) ... so there is a chance that santa will give it to the easter bunny who will give it to a knowledgable person who actually want to publish it ... know what I mean?

There are chances that such pix exist and will be published but they are very very small ...

no cheers this time

Indeed, it seems there are the usual few doing the rounds and not very many more. As you say there are no doubt some around unpublished in collections or possible in the hands of original owners & respective families.

Such a pretty aircraft it's a shame that alot of these Luftwaffe planes were just scrapped after the war.

Hi guys. Please forgive the poor picture quality.
I've had a pretty hectic weekend and still feel a little tender from a wedding reception last night which had a free bar so I probably had a fair few pints of Guinness

Anyway I did some of the decals tonight, still loads more to do but I don't feel up to carrying on!!

Hi Howard

Looking good!

So you kept the pinoccio mockup Hs 293 ...

If I may ask a queestion? Well, that is already a question. Here is another one: Why did you open the flaps all differently?

cheers

Hi Steffen, yes I left the HS alone. I figured it would do for this build.

On the flaps, I only glued them in last night so I wanted to let them set before I moved them all to their final positions.

They will hopefully be moved tonight, and I hope I don't break any of them now

Thank you Steffen, and thanks for your continued help and advice

I do hope to be finished tonight but that depends how easy the remaining parts go together.

We shall see.

Also, I ordered a Luftwaffe in Focus a few days ago as you recommended it. I look forward to seeing it.

If you are interested in Luftwaffe you will not be disappointed .. except that you did not start to collect them earlier .. most of the older issues are sold at the publisher .. but many can be bought 2nd hand .. go get 'em all

cheers

Hi Howard!

Very nice! I can't wait to see it finished!

Would you mind sending me some pictures of the model once it is finished? I would like to make a special Luftwaffe update for Aeroscale with German WWII stuff. So far I have a Me 163 and a Siebel 204 (although in RAF markings ). I think your Dornier 217 would be the perfect addition for the front page...
