From memory the Ulrich Neckel aircraft is the diagonal zebra striped machine? That will be a lot of of fun to mask!

I've built 3 of these and there's 2 critical parts of the build. The first doesn't matter if you're leaving off all of the cowlings to show the engine- as a bit of adjusting is needed and fitting in a certain sequence to make them fit well. But if all the cowlings are off, then you can just build it as per the way Roden say.

The really inportant part is the tight fit of the lower wing. I always file the mounting slots wider and sand down the lower wing roots until the fit is no longer a forced one. If there is force needed then you end up with anhedral to the lower wings and it looks a bit silly, and then also causes the top wing to sit too low as well. It's a very easy fix when you're forwarned like i was.

Otherwise i like the Roden kit better than the Eduard- the shpae looks better to me.

Nice start Terri !
I built the same model and I leave the engine exposed too but I had some problems with the engine bearer and, like Andrew, with the win root of the lower wing (actually the problem is in the upper half of the lower win).
Other problem with the Neckel version is that the provided fuselage crosses doesn't have the same length-width.
I have some pictures of the Neckel's machine, if you think I can help you just ask.

Cheers,

Claudio

Thanks for the on-line blog build. It is a serious undertaking. Just remember to have fun doing it. I believe you will find most people here to be very supportive.

I have a few of these Rden kits myself. To date, I have built only one of them. I really liked it. It is currently sitting in the display at the LHS. My major problem is unlike anything that has been brought up on Aeroscale in the past. My problem is, drum roll, cat hair. When the decals are snugged down, cat hair will show up. I didn't have a problem with the cowling. But the lower wing problem was quite evident, and easily remedied with a little filing. It is a good idea to have some references available. I got a lot of use out of the online Drawings of the Engine to show where everthing goes. Stephen also is a valuable reference. He seems to have access to just about everything, short of an original 1:1, in his garage. (I think he has an E-8 in there)

So remember, the whole world is watching.

I have some very simple solutions to the above mentioned cat problem.

But i'm sure you don't want to hear them! It's just i have a strong liking for bird life of all kinds, which naturally brings with it a strong dislike for all cat life...

Next time I have my Camera at my In-Laws (where we keep the horses) I will photograph some of the bird life they have there... Eastern Rosellas and Crimson Rosellas, Lorikeets, Kookaburras, Wedge tailed eagles... The list goes on... (I would not be at all surprised to find a Lire Bird hiding in the undergrowth (they are really rare).

Cheers,

Hugh

Hi T
I will follow your build on this one. Always nice to watch online builds, I like that trick with taped manifolds
