OK, I have closed everything up. The cowl ring met the fuselage sides with no trouble. The lower nose panel also lined up. When I applied the upper cowl panels there was about a 1/8th inch gap in the middle The upper pieces do line up with the cowl ring and the fuselage sides. Don't know why I have a gap. Plastic strip should fix the problem

Rick,
I agree with everyone wholeheartedly. I especially like the painting you did on the interior. The wood grains look great.

Thanks for the compliments! I am juggling several builds at this time and MUST focus on a couple for Internet modeler that are way overdue! That being said this is not entirely backburnered as I work on it during drying periods for oils and sub assemblies of the other kits.

With Stephen's build of the Lafayette Escadrille version of this kit imminent, I thought I might take another look at my build. One of my last comments was that "I encountered no more difficulties with the cowling assembly". I must have been looking forward based on my test fitting as this turned out not to be true! Even with the ground away cylinders the engine covers did not fit! As far as I can see, one will be left with a gap that needs to be addressed. In my next post I will post a couple of new photos showing my solution, and a link to Internet Modeler showing Mark Flakes ultimate solution to this issue.

Here are the pictures showing the gap in the assembled cowl panels. The gap measures 2mm at the front and 1mm at the rear. I used sheet styrene to fill, and will sand and fill with epoxy putty as needed.
Had one picture up then Windows did an auto update knocking me off line. came back added 2 more and had all red xs'. Back to the drawing board.

here is the link to Mark Flakes I.M. build showing how he handled the ill-fitting cowl parts.

P.S. Hopefully someone can fix whatever it is I do wrong with the links when I post them!

Rick,
The SPAD VII is coming along nicely.I'm on pins and needles waiting to see what's next. There's noway around it,I've got to have one of these little gems in the collection.

I like it, I can wait to see it finished!
By the way, somebody (Stephen?) knows if Roden has plans to release a Spad VII decorated with the large cockerel's head emblem of the Escadrille SPA 48 ?
Regards,
Claudio

Thanks Greg, Terri and Claudio! We will see if my solution proves to work as well as Marks?
By the way, IIRC Larsa was working on one of these way back when I started. Larsa did you finish yours? Almost at the painting stage, just a few holes to drill

To digress a moment - How do you make those trunbuckles in 1/48 scale?

Here is a question for the field. Anyone have the Part set for this kit? Considering the point in construction I have reached is there any good reason for me to consider purchasing the PE?

Thanks Stephen, I saw your review of the Eduard Sets and must say that the full set has quite a lot of exterior pieces that would be useful. I sure wish this had been available last year when I started this build.Would really have spruced up the interior!

Thanks to both Nick and Gregory for the encouragement.... and subtle push
I have done the final filling and sanding. I would post a pic but it would look much the same as the last! By the way Gregory, I looked at every one of your builds on Hyperscale during the WW1 theme on "ThemePics". Very impressed by your work!
