Thank you Terri, but it is too late now .. mine has a wooden seat because Onkel Theo liked that colour better
Fit is o.k. but not stellar .. I repositioned the u/c three times and every time it distorted it still is twisted but I do no longer care. I also do not like how the cockpit opening is split .. but that seems to be a favorite of Eduard (it is the same with the Dr.I kit) .. all in all not really a fun project, but o.k.

Guten morgen, Kameraden!
yesterday was a good day as I proceeded quite a bit. I masked the cockpit and sprayed the fuselage white, then yellow, then Klear (with drying time in between of course). In the evening I applied the decals from the Flashback kit. They were very brittle and of course did not fit the kit very good, but they are thin and reworking with Citadel "Chaos Black" was o.k (I rather correct some decals than doing it from scratch ..... masking and all that boring stuff) i also painted the struts olive and the firewall "Boltgun Metal". I used vallejo Panzercolors leather for the cockpit frame, but I am not happy with the look, so i will give it another try after the next Klear coat. the tail strut is just primed with a sandy colour for kind of a wood effect .. strangely this thing does not look as good as the stuff from Roden ...
just one pick of my "bumble bee", as there is not much to photograph ...

Interesting Steffen, I have tho old old DML offering I tinker with from time to time and thought of buying this kit and marrying the best of both but from what I see the DML kit of 1994 actually looks better, to the eye at least.
But you have gone leaps and bounds with this one and I love the streaking.

Not bad at all Steffen ! For some one who really doesn't venture into the WW1 thingy you are doing great !!!
Yes I really don't care for how Eduard did the padding around the cockpit opening . To many seems and hard to fill at times . Compared to the original release kit # 8003 . I rather build that one instead and rob parts from the new release .
I've build the Dragon kit and it does build up to a very nice model and the fuselage seems better to me .
Looking forward to more progress

Thank you Keith and Terri.
Maybe i am giving the wrong impressions here: this is for sure not a bad kit! I just do not like some detail solutions. Still I would rather build this that the Flashback thing! I cannot comment on the Dragon kit as I do not have it. Also I really think this could be a Weekend project for someone that builds a bit faster than me.
BTW here is a little more progress:
Still a lot to do. Next I will try to somehow make a half way useable pair of 08/15, Spandaus or whatever that is called. .. the most difficult part will be attaching the wing/struts as i do not have a helling ...

..looking very attractive Steffen .. you're saying the black stripes are decals ? ..but not the kit decals ? ..or doesn't this kit have the stripes as decals...?

Hi Neil
the decals are from the Flashback kit they do not fit and broke very fast. I had to rework them pretty much ... I probably should have taken some pix to illustrate it, but I was just in a working flow, so no pix.
thanks for looking! and see Terri's post, she also wrote it should have been a metal seat .. but it was much too late to change anything, when she answered ...

Well, I do not progress much, but anyway here are two mor pix. After adjusting the stripes I gave it a Klear coat and then Gunze flat clear I added the guns (still some parts missing) and used the "Devlan Mud" wash from Citadel on the whole aircraft. As this is kind of a "what if" or "art" I want it to look used .... the prop is not fixed yet ...
for the oil on the u/c "wing" I also used some "Badab Black" .. I really like these washes .. need to buy more of it.
BTW could anyone please tell me what those pipes are(comming from the front fuselage sides) and what colour they should have ... TIA

Stephen I believe they are the air intake pipes for the carb and I would go for a alu/steel colour myself

o.k. here we go
I attached the forward struts yesterday and painted them this morning. I also attached the last parts for the MG mounts and the ammo counter dials ... the i went searching for one of the rear struts after cleaning (almost) the whole workbench (which still is messy) I did not find anything .. also the floor is "clean" .. so I had to find a replacement.
The struts from the Flashback kit are slightly shorter (not much but still visible) so I took a round profile from my stash and slightly shaped it .. sadly the Evergreen/Plastruct stuff is not a stable as injection moulded plastic, but I hope it will hold the weight. i glued everything and must try to let it alone until tomorrow ....
Here are two bad pictures from my cleaned workbench with the model ... great jig, isn't it
as you can see i already glued the control cablesto the wing. the fuselage already has two hoes, so it should be quite easy to complete ...

Hi all
now it stands on its wheels again and it turned out quite nice (to my eye). Still need to add all the control links and wires and the tail struts.

Thank you Terri!
It is done .. I have added the last parts today. i will give it another flat coat and maybe I am trying to find a wind shield (not sure if this should have one as Eduard did not include/wrote anything). Weather is very bad today so I will try to take my usual 10 pix "walk around" tomorrow.
As written above I am quite happy with the model, though it is surely not up to the standard you normally have in the early aviation section of Aeroscale. Maybe I am doing one of my eduard Dr.I/F.I soon. BTW you wrote in the Camel/Dr.I thread that you will do Hans Kirschsteins aircraft .. are there any decals for that striped plane out there (1/48)? No fun to mask all the stripes....

As far as I know Steffen there is no decals for it . So masking will be involved . Not sure if decals would be the best way to go , or at least for me . Wasn't happen with the Eduard ones I did one the Pfalz . They where to short and trying to match the grey was a nighmare for me . ( The grey stripes are off in colour any way )
