Actualy I have problems getting the effect fotographed. While you can make it out on the lower side,, the upper looks almost plain --- also the panel shading which is very visible in person is totally killed on the photo .. all the best Steffen
Hi Steffen
I was thinking just the opposite. I can see the effect on the topsides, but was actually going to ask if you'd applied it on the undersides, because I can't see it there. Maybe it's overpowered by the strong blue background, or maybe it's a monitor thing.. who knows.
You're quite right - how the model looks to the naked eye is what really matters.
All the best
Rowan
EDIT - I'm mis-read your post. I thought you were referring only to the pre-shading as regards what was visible above and below. Yes, I can see the wash as you describe.

Hi Rowan
Thanks for commenting!!!
what you see on top is the light reflected at the "panel borders". It is a dark wash and you cannot see nothing of it. Also the underlying panel shading effect is much better visible on the real model.
On the lower side there is no panel shading! (as mentioned much earlier in the thread) but just the wash (which I think can be seen in the pictures though it is not black) .. but that's fine with me as I did not want to make this project complicated. Still waiting for the parcel from Canada .. probably stuck at the customs ... sh##
cheers

Yeah the panel shading looks great just a nicve subtle variation. I used a pale beige wash on the topside of
my p39 and it came out better than the dark one. I guess it depends on how dark the OD as to what works best.

Thank you JP
I prefer a dark wash on OD ... though I will probably do brighter washes again on Navy/Marines birds. Not sure what to do with the Bloch Super Etendard.
fingers crossed i will get the Ultracast stuff tomorrow.

Many thanks Jean-Luc, Terri and Damian!
Finally it is done now. Took me a bit more than I expected, but I wanted those Ultracast wheels and i am glad I waited for them.
I applied a flat cote and attached the last bits and pieces. I used the Xtracrylix stuff and it worked more or less, but I must say that I am not impressed. Still prefer Gunze sadly I have no stock left at the moment. So I will use hannants brand a bit more to test different mixes with thinner.
Photos will follow tomorrow (when the weather allows) ..... it is like Christmas .. waiting for the gifts is half the fun

So now some photos...
sadly I must say that these do not do the model justice. Without bragging I think it looks much better in real life (with the panel shading subdued but clearly visible as well as the washes (forgot the tail wheel bay doors which I treated meanwhile)
as always: comments welcome, no matter what ...

Many thanks John-Paul and Nick!
here are 4 more pix with a base I am working on ... expensive, but nice (i just glued the tiles last weekend, so this is WIP)
The 2nd T-Bolt must be about 10 years old. Just Mahurin's machine OOB with a black wash (maybe also somewhere among Jean-Lucs pictures from Merchweiler)
all the best
