so after the AM drama of the motor, I've built 3 MG/FF canon ammo drums and still need to make the rack to hold them.

now that Im less emo about the motor, I may continue with my detailing plans..just kinda tired of having to re-engineer the kit to make it sort of proper...any ideas?

My friend, you've done amazing work here- cheers! I can fully sympathize with your feelings of frustration and the crisis of confidence it can bring. I dither all too often when looking at all the little mangled parts before and despair at the thought of getting them beaten into the shape of an airplane of some sort. When I get frustrated working on one bit I put it aside and work on another sub-assembly. You can see where I've bounced from cockpit to wings to engine and back on my Me410 build. I've still to touch the landing gear- something I've been saving- or hiding from- I guess. I find that pulling out the nice side view of the scheme I've planned helps to pull it all together for me- painting is just ahead! Looks like I'm going to have to add some hinges to the ailerons- oh, bugger! One thing at a time, one thing at a time...

On a side note, I built the G-4 version waaay back in '80 when I was in college. I had told a smoldering cute I was dating about it and she in no uncertain way that I was over-geeking- my coolness factor dropped several points. When she finally saw it hanging from my dorm ceiling those points came back and then some. It's just a cool-@ss model! I can't say it got me "lucky", but, well....

Soldier on, mate- you'll triumph in the end!

thank you for the comments Chuck!
I think I do need to give my self some sort of inspiration shot to keep me going and the my eye on the prize. Your builds really pushed me to push myself and see what I can produce, your helldiver build brought me to the site actually.
I think I will try to gain some emotional ground and get some easy stuff done to at least feel like I did something productive, lol.
Much like you I too am avoiding the landing gear for awhile.

G'day Shawn, I'm going to echo what the others have said. Your build so far is great, and I will go back to it (when I start my Eduard 110 kits down the track) to give me inspiration and ideas. We are all too often our own worst critics simply because we are too close to the issue. I take great heart from showing one of my recently completed kits, with all of the flaws that I KNOW are there, at my local club, only to get a constant stream of "That looks great, how did you do that?" and "How did you achieve that effect?".

Sit back, take a deep breath and a sip of bourbon, relax and enjoy knowing that you are doing a great job by any standards because it's YOURS !!

Cheers, D

thank you Damien I appreciate the compliment, in hind sight I should have bought the Eduard or Dragon kits, but Im a sucker for 1/32 scale builds. Your kit should be cake comparatively as it has all the details Im creating from scratch.
Did I mention this whole kit is raised panel lines as well?
Bourbon has been a key supporter in this build, lol, and will continue to be.
I sat down last night and started finishing my MG/FFm ammo drums and should have them painted and weathered along with the racks for them this weekend. I built the drums out of evergreen 1/4" dia. tube, sheet stock and some model railroader 'L' stock. SO far they look great although the bodies are not tapered like the actual drums, I made the taper effect by sanding an angle into the 'L' stock. I also intend to finish the nose installation and fill, smooth and rescribe some lines there as well.
As for the motors Im going to build the left one as well and see which fits better then detail out the better of the two, at least I have options!
I picked up a photo etch set for a Tamiya race car and am using the details from that to add some pizaz to the build and the scratch stuff Im creating.

Whatever it says on the box, it won't be a 'C-4/B'. Only four 'C-4/B's were built (by Gotha) and they were later designated 'C-7' (ref: Petrick & Mankau, 'Messerschmitt Bf 110/Me 210/Me 410'). If there are wing bomb racks it will come out as a 'C-7'.

you are correct, thats what you told me over on LEMB as well
so to do this as a c7 i need the wing racks mounted as well as the belly etc correct? The c4 lacked the wing racks if im not mistaken but still had the belly etc rack?

after further investigation, Im going to relegate the engine I built to the covered side and rework the other one to be displayed. The block is way to sharp and angular, no valve covers, a big box of doodads on the back that is fictional and the gear box....oh the gear box, now thats gonna take some work.

started the "new" motor last night
cut off the super charger
cut off the "box" on the back of the motor
added square stock to round the block
pulled a wheel from a 1/48 A6 for the new supercharger
glued the block together
reworked the gear box a bit

Shawn, After following you closely on this project, I am so glad that mine will be a crash landing. I can skip alot of what you have to put in. After thinking about this kit I am having nightmares thinking about the old matchbox S.D.B. I guess it never stops. Anyway, your is turning out real nice compared to what you started with. Keep up the good job my man.

You've got to forget about a fighter-bomber C-4 variant. Fighter-bomber variants were: C-7; D series; E series; F series and G-2. That relates to front-line units. I cannot state with certainty about training units, since they might have cobbled various things together for training purposes with cement bombs.

For a C-7, you will need the wing racks positioned immediately next to the radiators, and the under-wing crosses outboard of the wing bomb racks.

Kit Motor

My Block, sans charger and gear box

My block showing the filler material to allow me to round the block, the way it should be

Gear Box, removed back plate, rounded casting edges for the fastener relief, added etch bits to match details photos, still need to add fasteners

Head rest armor (may not be accurate but they had to have a head rest, right? Also shows the gauge bodies I added

Gage faces, still need to add the MG/FF ammo drums and their racks

aaaaand my motor. Still need to semigloss coat it and wash it. After I get a Nacelle built I can see if I need to detail the back off the block/blower. I decided I am not going to bother plumbing it or wiring it, if I do I'll never finish this thing.

also managed to install and position the elevators today, assembled a nacelle and one wing as well. Now the next detail issues arise....the gear wells....frankly they suck. Added some photo etch to the vertical stabilizers, added fine wire trim tab actuators to the rudders and elevators, painted and installed the MGFF canon drums and mount (only did 2), worked on the ventral ETC pod and spruced it up a bit (nothing huge bu effective) and finally I drilled the rear fuse for the "lift support" pass through.

Progress and it feels good

Thanks Terri, i need to get the shots from yesterday afternoon up still. Ahead is closing up the cockpit with grab handles, support structure and the signal lamp. I need to assemble the other wing and nacelle still as well, then detail both gear bays,

started reworking the engine nacelles, namely the oil cooler ducting. Need to scratch build the ducting as its just wrong and looks like poo. Worked on the ETC rack a bit more, messed that up and had to fill my mistake, need to go back and further detail that still. Figured out the gear bays a bit more, my wife has these pills that come in an oval foil wrapper which is just about right for the wheel bump in the bay, which is missing from the mold entirely. I will need to build a firewall as well and detail it with various bits to busy it up a touch.

Hi Shawn
Been following with interest. Revell kits really are a B***h, I've got a few in my stash.
You are doing a stirling job, don't dispair, you'll get there.
I'm building a Revell Concorde, already felt like putting it on an unscheduled flight
through the window!!
Keep smiling and try not to pull too much hair out!

Thanks Stuart, luckily Im bald so it cant cost me anymore hair, lol.

I spent the weekend reworking the starboard engine nacelle, built an oil cooler duct, firewall, added fastener strips to the cowling opening, drilled out the front former ring and made it a ring vs. a half circle and installed one of my wheel blisters in the gear bay. Started working on the second nacelle and picked up some fine brass tube for the Mg17s up front.

Hi Shawn
What is that green tube of stuff you have on your bench? I have a tube very similar only in red.
It is American, is the green the domestic and the red the export version of the same stuff, or is it something different.
