Hi all
Well just about finished both the SE5a and the Pup - basically both are waiting on a final flat coat to complete - then remove masking from the clear panels on the wings of the SE5a and the addition of the clear panels on the Pup.
I'm semi-happy with the end result - I think the join of the rigging to my home-made buckles is a bit large, mainly due to over-excitement with cryo glue - but a dab of metallic grey paint to blend it in looks ok. Also I struggled to get tension on some bits - mainly the cables to the tail planes and ailerons.
So the flat-coat should be sprayed in the next week or so - I'm painting the inside of the house at the moment so a few biplanes will be a welcome change!
So here's some pics - first up, the SE5a - those keen of eye will notice that this version shouldn't have armament as it was from a training unit but as it's my plane, I've added the guns, so there...
And the Pup - some of the angles are repeated from a previous update so my apologies...
And the two together:
Incredibly, once I get the final coat on and the clear pieces done, these will be the first models I've completed in a few years - I usually get to the point of twiddly bits and then have no where to display or store the model so back in the box it goes... So of course I've no idea where to put these two, and I've started the Albatros D.Va and Bristol fighter... erk!
Cheers from NZ
Rob

Hi Rob
Congratulations on finishing two really nice models – with two more in the pipeline I guess you'd better go to IKEA (if you have that in NZ?) and get a displacase as well
Best Regards
Mikael

Hi guys
Thanks for your comments, much appreciated - just shame my camera is a bit limited - the models look better in the flesh if I do say so myself....
Terri - I used 0.2mm fishing line for the rigging - I'm hoping the dull coat will flatten the shine a wee bit. It looks bronze on the reel but clear on the plane. I rigged it by making turnbuckles from twisted wire similar to the method demo'd on the site by a few other builders. I then superglued them to the wings and fuselage after making most of the pre-moulded holes slightly deeper. I then tied one end of the rigging to the top wings - pretty standard rigging method so far. Then, through an amazing feat of dexterity, balancing the kit in various unnatural positions, using two pairs of needle-nose tweezers, I threaded the ends through the lower turnbuckles and tied a knot - had to have a few goes in places to get the right tension but in the end it worked... mostly. Just made sure I started at the hardest part - like the inner struts - so the main wing cables would not be in the way. I then put a small blob of CA on the knot and covered it with some metallic grey paint.
Mikael - we don't have IKEA here in NZ but we can buy it from Australia... we do have Kea's though...
..
And yes the biggest problem is where to put the finished model so it doesn't gather any more dust...
Cheers from NZ
Rob

Hi all
Hammered away at these kits last night to complete the last few bits - winscreens and clear covers on, last of the control wires, etc, etc. And hoora! finished - have to admit a few of the many kits I have on the go that I can actually call complete. The WNW kits are fantastic, so much so I've bought them all and have the DV and Bristol on the workbench now as well. PIcs posted in the gallery but here are a few...
SE5a
And the Pup...
Cheers from NZ (home of the Wingnut) - thanks everyone for the kind comments - my first GB and now and looking forward to another GB!
