70 years ago Operation Gelb Fall started - the invasion of France, leading directly to the Bsttle of Britain, all during the summer of 1940. Those signed up it's time to get building, anything operational in Europe during 1940. Build starts HERE.
Unfortunately, although I know I bought a Hurricane several weeks ago for this build, I can;t find it
I will buy another kit asap

been looking forward to this...
mine will be a hasegawa hurricane 1/48 in the markings of the hurricane at RAF HENDON in the Battle of Britain hall.
it has a long and varied history.
AF-F saw service during the battle of france, battle of britain not to mention having been in films such as reach for the sky.
my kits all packed away at the moment but i'll dig it out soon.

Hi Paul Another Hurri. Sounds better than mine, found the kit, typical Airfix. Mine will be GZ-B 32(F)Sqn Biggin Hill July 1940. There is something about the Hurri we could end up with a squadron of them.

hi,
i wanted something to tie in with the fact i live about 20 mins from croydon airfield and about 30 mins from biggin hill.
when i found the history of AF-F it was perfect as 607 squadron reformed at croydon when they had to get out of france and the fact that the actual aircraft is still around just makes it for me.
its not a flashy paint scheme or anything like that, its the history side of things.

I got a small start on my Azur 1/32 Dewoitine, basically just painted the inside blue. I think I may tackle that one, as I haven't seen anything French mentioned yet. I may do a Hasegawa 1/32 109 to go with it, but one thing at a time (hah! As if! )

Oops, sorry Vance. The 406 would be French, I guess.
Still, 520 is my plan at this particular moment.

Mine,
Not sophisticated at all and no after market goodies, I need a simple build after a couple of difficult ones, something with instant gratification.

Upon further review (I thought of this in the shower yesterday), I think I'll do the Azur 1/32 Hawk 75 in French Service. I plan to do 1/32 models of all the American production fighters of WWII in the colors of their highest scoring ace. I've got all of the kits except the P-63 which I don't think exists and which I really can't find any info on anyway.
At any rate, the highest scoring P-36 ace was Edmond Marin la Meslee during the Battle of France, and his markings are in the kit! No brainer, right!
So, that's my plan for now. Let's see how long I can stick to THIS one!

another update...
the cockpits now finished,i've not gone the mega detail route as the canopy will be shut or half open so i've only really used the eduard seat belts and a couple of other details.

Nice details on the hurricane Paul. (makes me want to throw the old Airfix Hurricane I have into the back of the closet and order a Hasegawa!)
OK, looking at the campaign time lines this one is the next deadline I have to meet. Question is _what_ to build? (I'd build an Emil but I'm already building three other 109s for other campaigns and would really like some variety.)
So then, I'm gonna ask for some help in choosing what to build from the kits I have available. I'll list them here and hope I can get some input on what others would like to see built. (thanks in advance)
The contenders:
Hs. 123 (Amtech)
MS 406 (Hobbycraft with extras)
Hawk 75 (Hobbycraft with extras)
D.520 (Tamiya with extras)
Hurricane Mk I (Airfix)
Bf 110C (Fujimi with extras)
He 100D (HiPM)
Do 17Z (Hobbycraft)
JU88 A4 (Promodeller with extras)
PZL.11 (Ltd. I guess it would have to be in Romanian markings to meet campaign requirements tho I'd rather do that as a Polish plane)
Cheers,
Fred

Its amazing how well a properly engineered kit goes together...
Making progress on the d520. I'm adding a basic Eduard PE fret and some resin wheels. That's the extent of the mods. This should speed up the build and allow me to get a couple of extra birds built this Summer.
I try really hard to avoid using putty or filler on models. There was a very small gap on the back of the wing where it met the underside of the fuse. A small wedge of plastic sheeting trimmed to fit was all it took to correct the gap.
Its clear that the challenge of this build will all be in the painting and not the construction.
The joints on the Tamiya kit are truly wonderful. I can heartily recommend this kit.
Cheers,
Fred

As much as I would have liked to build something for this campaign I can't find a picture with a date on it to prove any of my kits were operational in the time period. My reference library is almost non-existent and I can't spare the money to go out and buy books about the aircraft I was thinking of modelling.
Enough whineing for now. Happy modelling to all participants.

Believe me Sir I have used the www, but there are still no dates to go with most of the photos..
I was going to build a Trumpeter Bf-109E-3 piloted by Josef Priller.

Just fond this campaign and was thinking what I had in the collection and came across a B&V 138 supermodel kit. Will try and get a phohtobucket site up to get pics in. A good campaign to boot!

Hi All.
Here is my completed summer of 1940 model, a 1/32 Trumpeter Bf109E-3 flown by Josef Priller at that time. I could not find a gallery so here are the pics.
This was my first attempt at a mottling job and I went cautiously so as to not over do it.
This was an enjoyable build. Only one thing they stuffed up, you can't get the cowling on over the cowling mounted machine guns.. Oh well.. I just cut the barrels off and glued them in position. I glued the cowling shut as well.
The other thing you may think is an omission is the lack of an aerial wire. I decided against one for this plane as the last Bf109E I built(the Eduard one) lost its aerial within a few days. You can't really see it in the display cabinet anyway..
Hope I am not the last person who is going to finish something for this campaign..
