Be chasing 350+ in the final innings methinks. Oh dearie me.

Shaping up to be a great series. At least I can catch the tail end of the day on the radio since it is in Perth.

Ponting fails again. Couldn't happen to a nicer chap

First ball tomorrow.
Here is a bump for the Ashes Speed Build to take place over the days of the final test. 3-7 Jan
The Ashes might be decided by then but we can still battle in plastic.
Any Pom or Aussie A/C allowed. Must be built within the duration of the test. If it finishes early then tough, post what you've got.

Man of the Match for best plane.
Not an official Group Build (I can't be arsed)

Totals for finished a/c of either side (never mind the quality feel the width) (you can declare your allegiance if it not apparent) to decide the home of the Aeroscale Ashes.

All sorts of skullduggery are expected and even encouraged.

So this is NOT an official campaign then.
I'm tempted to try it though, because a 5 day (maximum) "speed build" sounds cool, and to support the colonials, but being a Yank, I have no idea what cricket even looks like. I've got a Corsair kit though, that would look good in Australian markings.
still looking into this.
-Sean.

You're a good man Sean, I've always said that !! Be well prepared for all sorts of underhandedness from the supporters of the mother country though. They are NOT to be trusted and will resort to anything to get one up on us.

An Aussie Corsair sounds cool too, nice choice.

Ok fellas, we almost ready to start it all again ?? A major overhaul of the Aussie squad, how about some predictions ?

I'm tipping Aussie win in 4 days.

Ok, let's call it 3 1/4 days.

This series is ALIVE AND KICKING fellas, bring on Boxing Day, cricket, beer, speed building, left-over christmas cheer, what a great week it's gunna be !

Jaypee, I do believe we might be seeing the start of an annual event my friend, pure genius on your behalf and you can certainly count me in, in-perpetuity !!

Cheers, D

I'm relying on this forum to keep me up with the cricket news. I'm ready to begin.
I misspoke earlier, and can't find any photos on the internet of an Aussie F4U or AU Corsair. I have a surplus Corsairs, Avengers, and Texans, and I see that Texans were license-built in Australia as CAC Wirraways (with some modifications), so that's my new choice.
I'll alter the rudder shape and use a 3-blade prop. The optional rear gunner, cowl guns, or bomb racks will depend on how quick my other progress is. Nice of the Australians that I can make a half-manly plane out of my Texan trainer kit. (1 credited kill on a Zero.) I'm pretty sure I can cobble together markings from my spares-- removing the red dot from the roundels, of course.
thanks for having me along,
Sean.

Yes. Its over the period of the final test. So if it finishes early you need to get a wriggle on. I'll be offline over xmas till the 28th. So i'll leave you with damo till then. Well done to the waca groundsman for nullifing swann. Seris still on though. Dreadful final innings by england. No more jetlag for ando. Jeez flying home to see a sprog? Cmon this is the ashes!!!
As for the snow yep hand painting and frozen fingers are no excuse. Lets spin the cons right round. Swann swann will tear you apart, again!

Sean i think a corsair would look great in foliage green. No need to change if you don't want, a wha'if is fine. This is only about finishing.
Merry christmas and chuck a shrimp on the barby

thanks, Jaypee, but I'll stick to true life. This is a fun little jaunt through Australia/Pacific history for me. Reading up on RAAF aircraft though, I haven't been trying to understand cricket yet. I do sure hope the final test goes 5 days, because here's what my strategy is looking like:
AssemblySteps
Is that what others were thinking too? I'm starting to see that hand-painting might lend an advantage.
Cheers,
Sean.

Sean, you're scaring me man ! That's just TOO organised.

My week will look like this:

Day 1. Brekky, go to work, come home, do dinner thing with wife and kids, hit the bench and mangle some styrene
Day 2 - Day 5. As for Day 1 but with some paint thrown at it somewhere.

You will need to find some way to watch the cricket while you build, because Jaypee and I will be asking questions !!

Cheers, D

Damian, I like your plan much better! Is it cozy and warm in Oz? I read the extensive Wikipedia explanation of cricket and found a Yahoo Sports site for the Ashes. Watching the game live will be tricky on this side of the globe though. I realise I've been spelling licence and colour wrong so far, ha ha.
More in a week or so now.

Sean,

Yes, summer here so it's definitely coducive to sitting watching cricket and drinking beers for five days. Have to find time to do some modelling too. Your schedule will be a great help, but I'll be leaving out a few steps as this one will be 'quick and dirty' for me - just like the English batting in Perth
If you can't get TV coverage try the radio commentary. During the slower moments (there'll be a few) they spice it up with some off topic chat.
It's called Test Match Special and you might be able to access it through the aussie and UK broadcasters' websites, ABC. net and BBC.co.uk

Paul, now THAT is a plan !!

Don't forget though, if the test only makes it to Day 3 or Day 4, that's where we call a halt to proceedings and submit our builds for judging. Given the way the last 2 tests have played out, anything is possible.

I QUIT !!

Aussies 4/58 at lunch, our illustrious leader fails again (out for 10).

Ooooooooooooooooooohhhhhh the shame, the shame.

I think I might go build something.

Doh! Just as I was about to join in, we've retained the Ashes!

It's GREAT to see an England side get clobbered (twice) and come out fighting and win!

Now let's see the Aussie's play for pride (that could still have an ouch-factor!)...

All the best

Dead wallabies don't bounce

Yep I'm back online. 7 days with no water apart from the snow and ice. Getting that stuff to melt takes ages. But adding it to gin helps. And after a few of those you don't notice your own stink so much.

Then I get back to syphilisation I find the Cons have given up

Never mind chaps there is still the Aeroscale Ashes to play for

HAPPY NEW YEAR to those who it has already come to.
