Morning all, and Happy New Year!

With the change of year, the campaign proposal site now has an option to go to 2012. Thus my origninal plan to have a Midway campign going from June 2011 to the 70 anniversary in June 2012 is now possible.

However it's been a while since I originally proposed this, so before I make a formal proposal I'm asking you all to let me know who's still interested.

Specfically, a Battle of Midway Campaign, running for a year from June 2011 - June 2012. Any aircraft, ship, figure, etc. that actually participated in the action on and around Midway Island in June, 1942 so long as it's in the colors/markings of that time.

Let me know and if we get enough folks I'll work it up and submit it!

Count me in, I have an F4F that will not get built unless a campaign appears that would make me take it off the shelf.

Hi Michael, I'm still up for this campaign.

Just to let you know that your original submission is still in the system awaiting approval. As my new role as campaign administrator, I'm slowly working through the submissions and checking that there aren't too many campaigns running at once. I'll change the proposed date and let you know ASAP.

Cheers

Allen,

No kidding, I had no idea it was still out there! Fine with me, let's roll!! I think it should go from June 7, 2011 - June 7, 2012, that end date is the day Yorktown went down and should cover the whole battle.

Just FYI, I've also posted the proposal on Model Shipwrights to get those guys in on it too. I picture it as one big KitMaker wide sort of campaign. If I have to change anything else in the proposal to reflect this, let me know, and thanks!!

Sweet deal Michael, I'm a big fan of PTO subjects

What graphics program are you using, if I may ask?

Jeremy,

I'm not much of a computer wiz and still just have Paint Shop Pro 4. It does the job for me, but if you have access to something higher tech and can come up with better graphics, have at it!

OK, I've started a LIST. Hah, that'll teach you to post on the internet!

Here are the people who've expressed interest and actually suggested a subject so far:

1. Bruce Miller/Grayghost666: Ship or TBF
2. Jesper/SgtJKJ: A6M2
3. Allen Berry/Tomcat31: SBD
4. Bob R./BigRip74: F4F
5. Naseby: F4F
6. Robert Melvin: USS Hornet

Please don't feel obligated, I have NO problem if you want to change out (considering my own history of indecision!)

I may have a crack at it if you're good with that, mostly would just like to outline the text so it's easier to see

And put me down for a TBF for the time being, I'm going to keep an eye out for an affordable Japanese flattop in 1:700.

Pretty sure I will be doing a SBD as well, but might switch to a Kate or Val

Whoo hoo! That's oficially 10!

I haven't decided what to actually build myself yet, I've got a lot of kits and plan eventually to do a pretty big Midway spread. I'm sort of holding out to see what everyone else is going to do and if I can fill in gaps. What I have are:

(all in 1/48)
F4F, A6M, F2A
SBD, D3A, SB2U
TBD, B5N, TBF

(and, in 1/350)
Enterprise (conversion from Hornet), Akagi (with WAY too many etched sets)

I guess to be truly consistent, I need a 1/350 model of Midway itself, but I've got to draw the line somewhere

Anyway, it's great to have you all on board. I'm going to go see if I can stir up any interest among the boat guys!

Wow, just realised this campaign is not set to start until June. But can I start already? I mean I already started truth be told...

I had this project running for ages, and it happens to be..

drum roll

Battle of Midway!

In its dramatised fateful 5 mins (actually longer but small detail). So it is a no brainer for me to choose what to make, since I'll be making The Battle of Midway

Jim,

Oops, know how you feel.

How far are you on your kit? I want to be fair to everyone and we are supposed to wait until the start time, but this isn't a race either so if you just put a little paint on the cockpit or something we can probably work with it.

Clarification:
I came from the wet side of the network so I'm not talking about wingy things per se, rather my project was about a bunch of floating things that happen to carry a couple wingy things.

The scope is, as described, The battle of Midway, the Pivotal part ie the moment Akagi, Kaga and Soryu bite the bullet, so it is a diorama of sorts.

Inclusion are: 4 Japanese carriers, 1 light cruiser and 2 destroyers, and a few wingy things from both sides.

I've completed about 70% on the hull of Akagi, 90% built on a destroyer and 50% on the light cruiser. All of which are yet to receive a drop of paint. Also done about 50 odd wingy things with about 40 or so more to go.

If there's a % requirement, I'm guessing I'm about 8% thereabouts, and fully intend to work up till the start date (at a slow pace I expect!) I don't think there's fairness involved since I'm sure it will be a hell of a lot of work left regardless it's 10% completed or 80% completed

Good lord! I had no idea you were into something so involved!

Are you doing any other ships besides the ones you've started? You can always hold off on starting one of them and do it for your "official" entry.

Might jump in on this one. I have never done a Midway themed piece. Hmm have to see if I can get me a Japanese Val Dive Bomber from the battle.

Well, I can for example hold-off one of the onboard 1/700 aircraft and do it as the official entry, but it kind of defeats the purpose of me joining! Wanted a deadline, a bit of pressure on the backside, and a worthy purpose (being the anniversary and all) to push me along. It has to be all or nothing..how many times can you build something that is the very topic? Midway is a battle that can actually be summed up in one scene, such was the importance of flattops in the pacific.

I am currently researching options and still ahve a ways to go before I make a final decision, but I am leaning towards the Akagi for the time being. I will work on some banner stuff next week if I can.

Jim: I would love to see some pictures of your project if you wouldn't mind sharing.
