Jim,
I, for one, am inclined to let you in with this as it sounds like just the sort of thing we're looking for. But do you think you can stand to stop working on it until June?
Jeremy,
Looking forward to what you come up with!
Aaron,
I have the "Midway" boxing of the Hasegawa 1/48 Val but basically the color options are just green over gray with generic red Japanese carrier markings. They instructions actually say they're "speculatve". Since the original boxing of the Val just had a number jungle, you should be able to use that. If you'd like me to scan the instructions, let me know.
Thanks all, this should be a blast (so to speak)!!
Michael

I just signed up.
I see 3 or 4 TBF's already on this list, and there were only 6 in the actual battle, but I'm going through a short stack of 1/72 Academy TBF-1's on my shelf and I'll build one for this campaign. There are 4 official Navy on-line photos of the single surviving TBF of VT-8 (of the 6 new Avengers that flew from Midway that day), so I will probably build that one (Bureau #00380).
thanks,
Sean.

Birthday is next week and I think my kids have ordered for me the 1/48 Hasagawa Val which comes with Midway Markings for Akagi or Kaga aircraft. It should turn up before the build starts.

Thanks My daughter is 5 and my son 19months and both are trains, planes and automobile mad. I`m lucky there because she thinks getting me a kit is a great thing to do.
The Hasegawa kit might be a little hard to get, but if the store does not get it in for her she told me she will get me something else. She told me maybe a F-4 as that would go with the Midway thing I was talking about. I thought an F-4 Phantom from Midway? She had a page open on her moms laptop of a F-4 with USS Midway on its spine. She`s cruising the internet looking for Midway stuff.
If I don't get the Val i'll see about a Zero. I want to go Japanese for this one.

Michael, I had to reconstruct the banner to make changes and I used an aerial view of a US carrier to match the Akagi. Let me know if this is to your liking.

Jeremy,
Nice work on the banner! One thing, though. I tend to get kinda picky (OK, anal ) about some things. Can I email you a couple of overhead side views of the Big E to use instead of what looks like could be an Essex class?
I know, VERY picky. I can't help myself sometimes. Let me know, and thanks!

Sure thing Michael! I couldn't find a good picture of the Enterprise, so anything you have will be great. I believe the shot I used may have been of the Yorktown, but I honestly don't know. It won't be hard for me to change things around, and if there is anything else you'd like to see done just let me know

OK everyone, the new, excellent banner (designed by Jeremy!) is out there on the Campaign page if you're interested.
Thanks Jeremy

Glad I could help Michael! And don't give me too much credit, I was just tweaking your original design
Btw, there is supposed to be a new-tooling kit of the Akagi coming out sometime soon. Has anybody heard anything about this yet?

New 1/700 Akagi came out around Sept? last year, by Fujimi. I got one sitting in storage right now, and it's pretty nice, especially the excellent box art.
In other news, a new tooled 1/700 Kaga will be released in April by Fujimi. As it stands, the 4 IJN carriers will all be represented by relative new toolings. Released from the earliest to most recent: Hiryu, Soryu, Akagai, Kaga.
Finally, if you are into destroyers, Fujimi has recently released a new tooled Kagero class - ships in the class such as Arashi, Nowaki etc participated in Midway as well.

Michael: 1/700. As much as I would love to build in 1/350, I don't have the room for such large ships.
Jim: That would be it. Where did you get yours from?
I can't wait for the Kaga to come out as well, and they all sound like something to look forward to. Do you know if these will all be bull hull kits, or are they going to be waterline?

Just got a email saying the kit will be shipping in a couple of days. So I am in.
I'll be trying not to muck up a 1/48 Hasegawa Val Dive Bomber in Midway colors. It comes with options for Akagi or Kaga. I am leaning towards Akagi but if the scheme is cooler i'll do the Kaga.

I was checking out listings for the Fujimi 1/700 Akagi, and one of the sites listed it as being a representation of the early war layout. Would anybody have any input one way or the other as to whether or not this is true?

Okay, time for some 'cheerfuls'.
Completed a midway carrier Hiryu in the past week. Note this is not my entry into the group build. It was a quick 'feeler' build to get familiar with the Hiryu kit that I'll be using, so I know what's good, what's bad, what needs surgery etc. Eg I won't be using the kit decals.., and actual build will use PE flight deck..
Photo taken next to reference, Gakken's Battle of Midway issue.
Built as Hiryu launching the 2nd wave against the task force, 10 b5ns with 6 escort zeros.

Jim,
If that's your "practice" build, we're in for a treat! Nice work!
