I've become quite a campaign maven. I've entered many and ACTUALLY FINISHED ONE! I've also noticed that new campaigns are scheduling to start in mid-2011 and know that many can last for a year. This leads me to an idea I've been sort of thinking about. What do people think about a Battle of Midway campaign?
I figure if we start in June of 2011 and run for a year, it will finish in June 2012, the 70th anniversary of the battle. The parameters are pretty wide including lots of different aircraft and/or ships and there are a lot of good kits out there now. It's obviously a significant event and we don't seem to see a lot of PTO based themes going at the moment.
Anyway, thought this might be an interesting flag to run up the pole and see who salutes. Let me know what you all think!

Being a staffer on the USS Midway Museum in San Diego, this campaign would be a natural for me!

Hello Michael,
I am in with either a ship(if allowed) or a TBF.
I do like the year long campaign it will help us very slow builders.
Cheers,
Bruce

Hmmm, a Midway Campaign....involving both aircraft AND ships?....a hearty high-ho YES, mates!!!
This is the type of campaign that I LOVE to see on the KitMaker Network, as it brings together modelers/members from multiple sites within the network, growing more friendships and camaraderie, and also opening up the door to many builders of entering a different modeling genre altogether.
IMHO, aircraft and ships go hand-in-hand many times, and would really enjoy to see this one go...I'm in!
Cheers,
~Gunny

Having chosen a Vindicator for the anti shipping campaign I also fancy doing a Dauntless at some point, so I'm in for this Campaign.

Can I just ask for some clarification here. Any ship or plane that was involved in the battle - now am I correct in assuming said plane or ship involved in the battle means they have to be modelled as they appeared in the battle.
For example a 1943/4 Mogami with rear turrets replace by a flightdeck would not be allowed but any of the Mogami's modelled in their guise as they appeared at the battle would be allowed. In the same vain, if I wanted to model a Wildcat, in couldn't be any old Wildcat, it would have to be one that was flown in the battle?
Going back to the ships, I take it we could model any ship in any of the task forces that took part, from any of the destroyers all the way up to the carriers?
thanks
Mike

Mike,
As far as I'm concerned, you got it right. The idea is to do something involved in the Midway (or Aleutian, I suppose) operation as it appeared at that time. So ships/aircraft in the Main Body, Transport Group, etc. would be fine too, but not a Guadalcanal F4F or A6M.
Any other questions?
Waiting for approval from the Campaign gods...

No thats fine - I have kits of A6Ms, B2Ns, D3Ys, F4F, SDB and a TBD all in 1.72 in my stash - not sure any of them are in 'Midway' markings. If they don't do then I have the likes of Hiryu, Akagi, Mikuma, USS Astoria and USS Pensacola, all in 1/700 in my stash. I'm sure I could find something suitable.
thanks

I have been informed by the staff that they don't want campaigns going for more than 6 months nor holding over into another calendar year. I was planning for this one to last longer to allow some more complicated builds (as many other campaigns here seem to do), and also to have it winding up in June, 2012 for the 70th anniversary. Apparently that doesn't fit into KitMaker's guidelines, so I'm going to hold off on this one.
Anyone else who want's to have a go, feel free.

Hello Michael,
I agree with Vance about this. I have 2 campaigns that are 10 to 12 months long and cover differant years. Maybe Big Jim is changing the rules .
I think that if they are going to change the rule, They should let eveyone know and Grandfather in any campaigns that are on the drawling board in.
Maybe take it over to MSW and see if Mark will allow it.
Just my 2 cents.
Good luck,
Cheers,
Bruce

This is a hobby and frankly I have quite enough stress in my life without adding some here as well. If the staff is telling me I can't do what I wanted to with this campaign, I'm not gonna fight them over it. After all, if I want to build Midway models, I don't need this as a reason to do it, I can just build!
Wow, that's a refreshing thought!
Thanks for the support though!

Perhaps that the campaign was due to run for 13 months is what caused the campaign to be restricted as I believe that 12 months is the maximum duration. just give it a month or so and resubmit it, it may get approved then.
Just my thoughts

This has laid dormant for a little while and I've thought about it and I think maybe I'm not quite ready to let go. Do you all want me to try again and get this approved? I'll try here one more time then maybe go to MSW if it won't work here. I'll also try cutting it down to 12 months instead of 13 and see how that flies.
I'm still up for it! Let me know if you are!
