Hi all

yesterday I glued on some further Photo Etched parts. Doesn't look like much progress but it is taking time (as we just had Rowans review: all glued with Gators Glue - thinned with water in my case)

Here is a bit more progress

As the BD sets did not show up yet I will fix the elevator so the spare moving part of the Oeffag kit fits the kit part. Probably it was a mistake in cutting and or sanding. Here it is after the first steps. It needs to dry now before I proceed reshaping it.

and now some hours later after some filing and sanding

Hi again

yesterday I added teh PE parts for the radiator to the upper wing and attached it to the model. After some drying time I also ran the rigging wires through the holes in the lower wing and glue it with CA

of course I forgot one wire which is just typical for me...

Slow but steady ... the legs look a tad long, but I have to see the full u/c to judge it.

You mean the red band behind the spinner?

Ahh, I see, my bad! I also need to add that rigging wire .. seems that caused that mental dead lock

Thanks Stephen!

Thank you Stephen!!

I checked the Jasta 5 booklets and found what you meant. Thanks for the hint as I often miss such things and have a lot of work afterwards. I just painted that area (I use RLM 02 which is probably not to everyones liking, but I prefer it over the neutral grey from the instructions)

all the best

Steffen
P.S. it is too dark for photos now so I'll post one tomorrow morning (local, i.e. CEST)

Looking good Steffen. Your entirely welcome. And it looks like you hit the big time. Eduard has noticed the build and posted it on their Facebook page!

http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/EduardCompany

I put in a request there for Brassin upgrades for the 1:48 Alb. D.III and D.V landing gear. It couldn't hurt. Anyway congrats Steffen.

Cheers Stephen

I also had seen it today and wondered why this one ... the Oeffag is much newer and the old Albatros D.V also turned out quite nice .... anyway.

Today I had only a slight progress:

Do not wonder about the light lower wing underside. I had to use the 3rd lt. blue for this and it will get darker after the decals and weathering.

I testfit the Albatros D.II wheels today (from the Eduard kit as the BD sets did not show up yet) and it looks awkward. Hope I was not wrong to lengthen the u/c legs ....

Another thing. The D.V kit had at least a hint to use copper wire and a drawing to show where to attach the cooling pipes to and from the radiator, but nothing in this kit ... at least I did not find it. Any online source where I can see this? (esp the rear pipe) Thank you!

all the best

Thank you Stephen! So it is the same as on the D.V..

I wanted to get this thing done for the Thionville show next weekend, but I think I will not make it .... we'll see

BTW the struts look really flimsy (I have not thinned down mine as I am pretty heavy handed ... literally too)

all the best (and good nite)

No worries on the struts they are made from brass rod. Very strong.

Thank you, Stephen....

interesting: the wheels on Voss' Albatros look larger. Well I used the Albatros D.II wheels which are slightly larger than the D.III things but somhow still look undersize especially with my loong u/c legs... however here is the picture of my progress today (not much) and the kit is now set aside to let the wheels join cure

BTW after looking at the photo in JaSta 5 vol. 1 (Albatros publ.) I decided for the variant where the radiator pipe goes horizontal in front of the engine ... still have to add the rear pipe....

all the best

Stephen answered to my query somewhere here that I should add 3mm (each front and rear) which I did ....

Hmm so here is another pic of the WW1 a/c I built in the past weeks

The D.V has a really good look and feel for me; the Oeffag alone too .... but sitting together ... I just do not know

input welcome

Thank you Stephen,

but I was more after a comment about the "sit" of the Albatros D.III. As I wrote I am happy with the D.V and also with the Oeffag 253 but the Albatros D.III looks strange somehow

all the best

Steffen
