Hi Terri;
I know how the mishaps can be. Good luck with the repairs and look forward to seeing you progress.

Well some progress has been made , but with a few mishaps along the way .
While mounting the middle wings I drop it and broke off the right middle wing and snap the strut ( strut under repair )
To top that off , while cleaning out the mounting holes in the wing for the struts I ended up drilling all the way through the dam wing
This was one of those days that I should have stayed away from the work bench and spent the day in bed
Terri,
Must be a variation on our wonderful Alberta weather; the "mishap front" that went through your location was here and doing well today centered precisely over my work desk. It was drop/launch/fumble and lose half the cockpit PE and kit cockpit widgets for me all day. On the brighter side some scratch replacements resulted in components I like better then the ones that got gobbled up by the floor monster.
With the progress and quality you've achieved this one will be another winner..very nice work. Hope today was better for you......I know my tomorrow will be an improvement. Model building is like a box of chocolates etc. etc. !!
Cheers

Thanks Guy's for the encouragement and support . Have to remember that when one is in a bad mood , stay away from the work bench .
I have started repairs and here is the out come so far . For the strut I strip off the paint and drilled some holes to accept a brass pin . Glued the broken parts and filled the join line with squadrons white putty . Once dried , sanded some and then brushed on Mr.surface 1000 . Sanded this again and the polished the strut and repainted it . Still need to add one more pin . While I was waiting for paint to dry I installed the guns and sight and added the rest of the detail to the under carriage using plastic rod and sewing thread .
For the hole which I drilled through the top wing I will make this look like a patch job by a stray bullet . Which I will work on this evening .

Congratulations, this is turning out nicely even though you're encountering a few set-backs. Your work on the turtle deck and the landing gear looks great.
You are inspiring me to dig out my 1996 version of the kit and get to work. I bought it about 3 years ago on evil-bay for the ridiculous sum of $23.00.
I am currently working on SMER's Supermarine Walrus and I knew it was going to take a LOT of work and patience. I must have sanded off a pound of plastic off the wings, tail, and fuselage - it is starting to look OK.
I can tell that you are motivated by your love of the hobby, and dedication to your subject matter.
Cheers.

Hi Terri;
Years back when I was 29 Palms CA doing a combined arms exercise, I was watching a show about the success and how it's done of "Uncle Milton's Ant Farm". When uncle Milton was asked to explain his success his reply was "perseverence"! I like your perseverence on this Forum and in your approach to modeling. You tackeld that unwieldly Sopwith 1 1/2 strutter and turned into a silk purse, and now your repair work on this. I like your bungee chord arrangement on the landing gear. That is first rate and a good reference.
Keep up the great work Terri

Hi Terri,
Great progress – and a great comeback after some setbacks (I think most builds have a setback of some kind) I really like how the turtleneck turned out under a coat of paint – its really interesting to see and compare your build with Kornbeefs
I think I have to tackle my Roden Sopwith Tripe quite soon – althogh that extra work to get the correct lentg is a bit offputting...

Don't let the length put you off Mikael; only the most discriminating WWI aviation enthusiast would know it is a bit off, and they would still compliment your work. It is only a model, and you do great work. Just do it.

thank-you so much my friend !
Like mark has said , don't worry about the fuselage being to short . Lars showed us that it builds up to a very nice looking model out of the box and when you tackle yours I will be looking forward to your build .

It took me two days to put on the decals and turned out rather well . I don't like the shade of blue for the cockades , to light in colour but they will have to do .
I didn't have to use any super sol on them , they snuggled down with no troubles at all .
The tail skid is a combination of the kit parts , brass rod , control horn for the spare box and part of the skid off the Roden Strutter kit .
here is the progress so far ..........................

I built the Aurora version of this a couple of years when I got back into WWI a/c. Not that Aurora were the most accurate, but the cockades in that kit were the same shade of blue. Did Aurora know something? Your preshading on the PC-10 is noteworthy Terri: I will try that on my NINAK.
Great recovery and great job!

Thanks Mark , yes the PC 10 turned out rather well . I'm pleased with this more then on WNW se5a I did which I think is a little on the dark side . Now I'm not saying that my choice of shade is right . Their has been to many arguments over the net on this , but it is a fun shade to experiment with for different variations .
I did thin the paint more then I normal do and it was applied in a few cotes building it up ( 20 minutes between each cote ) . On my next Bristish subject I would like to try PC 12

Was nice being able to spend most of the day parked infront of the work bench . Progress is coming along very well and getting one step closer to wrapping this one up .
top wing is now mounted and the strut hardware in place . For those of you who have this kit or another version from Eduard . I highly reconmmend that you use a wing jig for mounting the wings . The attachment points are very weak and one must make sure the the stagger of the middle wing and top one are right or you will throw off the stance of the wings altogehter .
Next step will be to give the model a wash to remove any finger prints and then she can be dull coted and weathering can begin . Weathering will be kept on the light side using pastel chalks . Once this is done it's off to rigging !
Note , the three bullet patch holes on the top wing Also I need to touch up where the pilot tube used to be .........lost to the carpet monster

WoW - I'd lost track of this thread, Terri. Not sure if this will make it through the censor, but ... DA*N !!...you've been doing some work!! It's funny what catches some people's eyes on a model. Your post of Jan 16, the second pic - I stared at that cowling and engine for about 10 minutes. I think it just looks awesome. I don't think I'm ready for a kit like this yet, but it sure is fun watching you take a run at it. . .I'm learning a lot. You're in the home stretch now, Terri. Looking great!

Thanks MJ for the kind comment . Glad that you are enjoying the project and learning some new stuff ! I have learned to by attention when drilling rigging holes . I did drill the single landing wire holes facing the wrong angle , I got them backwards if that makes sence .

Hi Terri;
Yes, it is looking good. Good job on the recovery and the rigging. I am thinking of doing the Roden 1/32nd version for the group build. Not sure yet, but I like the way yours is shaping up.

Nice work Terri. Though you had a few set backs just think of poor Des and his recent "bad day". You have come through with flying colours. Having done this kit I can sympathize. It is a bit tricky but well worth the time and effort.

Hello Mark , thanks for the nice comment on the progress so far .
I would like to see you build the Roden kit of the triphound for the GB . I think you will enjoy lots and with Lars build as well as Keith 's progress you are in good hands for tips . If you need some info on her give me a shout and I will see what I can do .

Yes , I really feel for Des , I have done that so many times now I lost count . Pro-weld really makes a mess out of things . I do agree that the kit is well worth the time and effort to build , but not for the beginner that's for sure . I do however , reconmmend a jig for this one though . Not so much for the top wing but the mid wing needs be just right at the cab struts with the right degree of angle to get every thing line up . The key here would be brass pins to get a stronger bound .
Thanks for the comment Stephen , means Alot coming from you !

Decisions Decisions Decisions. I recently received the fine PHEON models decal sheet for the Tripehound, just might have to have a go. I will have to figure it out.
Thanks for the offer

And that she is , fitted the rudder last night and have the rigging wires fixed in the holes . Just have to glue then to the control horns and then paint all the turnbuckles and that will be it .
Thanks Mikael !
