Last Sunday WWI aviation historian Dan San Abbott went in the hospital for a serious Gaul Bladder infection issue. He went through an operation to remove the dead bladder.
He had gangrene in his Pancreas because of this. At this time he is responding well to antibiotics and resting quietly.
Patty requests his friends keep him in prayer.

Greetings Gentle Folk!
I just talked to Patty. The prognosis is good. For the first time today Dan has come off some of the meds and is responding to the medical teams and they feel he is going to progress well. Patty has said, they told her he will come out of this ok, but its going to take a lot more time. He is on dialysis as the CT dyes used can do some damage to the kidneys so their working slowly to get him back to "normal". Most of you know Dan has had an artificial heart for many years. The have been battling the infections and so far have been successful
She wants to thank everyone for their restraint and at the same time their concerns posted here. As I mentioned to several representatives of the societies he frequents, please send cards and letters to his home address or continue in your good thoughts and prayers. Patty will pick up any correspondence and take them to him. She told him about your support and responses here and as soon as he's able to sit up they'll bring him a laptop so he can respond personally.
I get the impression he is on the mend but weak and considrably medicated. I'll keep you posted as I learn more.

I'm so sad to hear this. Never knew him, but, read his acutely knowlegable work and it seems he was always there to help. Very sad, and I have committed to a prayer for him and his family.

As with Guy's comments, I never knew him, only his work, which indicates he was an outstanding expert in a realm we all enjoy. He leaves behind a wonderful litany of knowlege for all of us to continue to enjoy and share. As said previously here, Blue Skies, Sir, and my thoughts and prayers to you and your family.......

Sad news indeed. He always had an encouraging word, and more than willing to share his vast knowledge, he will indeed be missed. Blue Skies Dan.
