Hi all,
For those that are thinking of doing a plane from a plastic Easter egg I have a couple thoughts on the process. As you can see from an earlier post and the images below I have actually built one.... and boy did I learn how not to!
If you are intending to put in a cockpit I suggest not gluing the parts of the egg together. This will allow you to open the egg and slide the cockpit module inside rather than having to cut a panel out like I did.
If you have to glue struts onto the egg... it would be a good idea to lay them out in the beginning. Definitely scrimped on the planning with this one and I can see the issues.
Some thought about materials up front will save a lot of time and headaches. Finding the materials for the various struts took 2 weeks, and I ended up using something that was on my workbench the entire time..... toothpicks and cocktail picks. Both are of the wooden variety and had pins drilled into the ends to actually fix them onto the aircraft.
Decal paper or various extra decals come in real handy. The markings on this example are printed out on paper and put on with white glue and a few good coats of Future.
Having said all that.... Would I do it again? I fully plan on it when this campaign begins. I probably won't be doing a Eggbatros, but I do intend to scratch whatever I come up with to do.
Anyway, I am no expert, but if you have any questions I will be happy to pass on what information I have.
Bob
