I think I may just join up for this one. I love those egg planes....never built one....usually stick to armor. I wonder, would it be OK to build an egg tank?? If not, I can certainly do an egg plane!

I noticed the campaign rules state air or land.

6. any "style" (prop, jet, chopper, space, land, etc.) is allowable

Though the gist of the "Egg" Planes! campaign is winged or rotor'd (air/space-craft), I would be interested in seeing what you come up with for an "egg" tank. Should be interesting indeed!

Only just noticed this campaign! and that site has given me some great ideas. Love the Death egg and the Egggs-wing
So I think I'll sign up with a scratch build.

Question, if your allowing tanks, what about ships and space?

Spacecraft are a "given." Hase' does a Shuttle. Ships? Like tanks, could be interesting.

Originally (tho I did indicate "land"), I intended winged and rotored builds. Standard "eggplanes." However, with the amazing possibilities out there, why not? You do a tank, cool! You do a ship? Cool!

Creative-juice is the name of this game. Heck, "eggplanes" are creative! I say: "Bring it!" And we shall all enjoy!

Joe, for the next one we can put two eggs in a bird's nest and then impose that on aviator's wings.

That sounds good too.

I'm in on this one too! Sounds like it'll be a blast! Think I'm gonna have a go at some conversion work and build a P-61 night fighter.

Ray, you have like 6 months to practice and show us how! I'm eager to see scratchbuilds here, and what's an extra eggshell cost anyway?
Cheers!

No big deal really, I was just psyching myself up and mulling over ideas for this build only to realize the later start. I'll be grafting parts from two different scaled kits for this one, had a 1/48 in the stash and just picked up a 1/72 from e-bay. I guess it's nice to wait, because around Easter there should be plenty of eggs in the craft shops!

The issue with the eggs from the craft shops is that you have to sand them down before you can use them. For some reason the slick coat on them won't take glue or paint worth a darn. I have an WWI Albatros almost done, and I had to sand the exterior enough to let the glue grab. Other than that there aren't any issues with them and they do come in several sizes....

Hi all,

For those that are thinking of doing a plane from a plastic Easter egg I have a couple thoughts on the process. As you can see from an earlier post and the images below I have actually built one.... and boy did I learn how not to!

If you are intending to put in a cockpit I suggest not gluing the parts of the egg together. This will allow you to open the egg and slide the cockpit module inside rather than having to cut a panel out like I did.

If you have to glue struts onto the egg... it would be a good idea to lay them out in the beginning. Definitely scrimped on the planning with this one and I can see the issues.

Some thought about materials up front will save a lot of time and headaches. Finding the materials for the various struts took 2 weeks, and I ended up using something that was on my workbench the entire time..... toothpicks and cocktail picks. Both are of the wooden variety and had pins drilled into the ends to actually fix them onto the aircraft.

Decal paper or various extra decals come in real handy. The markings on this example are printed out on paper and put on with white glue and a few good coats of Future.

Having said all that.... Would I do it again? I fully plan on it when this campaign begins. I probably won't be doing a Eggbatros, but I do intend to scratch whatever I come up with to do.

Anyway, I am no expert, but if you have any questions I will be happy to pass on what information I have.
