Here are some in progress pics. The nose gear and tail hook bays were pretty bare. So I glued in bit of plastic and wire. The fit of the nose gear well isn't great.

That'll be one big model once it's done, I mean I have an S-3A in 1/72nd and it's pretty huge to begin with.
I like the effect with the wire, I'd like to start trying that with future builds if I can find an appropriate size for 1/72nd.

For a near lifetime supply of tiny wire, you can pull apart small (22 or 24 gauge?)stranded wire, and just use individual strands. Otherwise, crack open some old electronics and see what you find in there-- even small motor windings.
I hope that was somehow helpful.

Yep, it's huge. The odd thing about this aircraft is how fat the fuselage is and how skinny the wings are.
I scavenged the wire I use from an old radio someone had thrown away. Some of it is really tiny stuff, perfect for 1/72.
I have absolutely no idea what the nose wheel bay really looks like. I just started cutting different lengths of wire and bits of plastic and glued them in place until I thought it was begining to look too cluttered.
(I bet there is some rivet counter spining in his grave and gnashing his teeth over that last comment!)

Hey Sean,
I finally got around to picking a kit so count me in! I must have a bit of a rotor-thing going on right now.
And since this is a campaign for support aircraft, the plan is to finish it as West Midlands Police Air Support, similar to this one..
Looking forward to this campaign and thanks for running it.
Best wishes,
Dermot

Cool, Dermot, I'm doing the same kit, same idea, for the MedFlight helicopter here in Madison Wisconsin for the MY HOMETOWN campaign, so I'll be watching you for tips.
Vertigo, for this campaign, count me on your spreadsheet for an Academy 1/72 TBF Avenger, modified as a TBM-3R for Carrier Onboard Delivery.
Cheers!

I intend to do an ASR Cat {in 48 scale, if I can get the kit} or a Comms Flight Cat in the same scale.

Once I finish my Phantom for the Vietnam campaign, I will start on this one. But, I have to choose between the 1/72 hobby boss CH-46, or the 1/72 italeri MH-53.... Oh the choices. Hopefully I will have some progress by mid week!

I got started on the C-124 today, sorting and organizing, and test fitting.
the castings look good, the surfaces are very smooth and the details are fine and crisp.
You have to build the props in Anigrand kits

I got a start on my pave low this week after I wrapped up my Phantom for the Vietnam build. I am torn as to whether or not I want to do it as it appears now, or if I want to do it in the Desert Storm scheme. But... I have time to decide.

I worked some more on the Pave low, I highlighted some random panels with varying shades of grey, and painted and assembled the rotors and landing gear. I am hoping to clear coat it before the end of the week!

Ready for a wash, masking and paint shop!
I have removed all of the Aurora antennae and installed ones for a CP-140A Arcturus (AC#121).
I have removed all weapon hard points, also opened up windows as per photos i have found on the internet.
I will be using CaMilAir decals for a aircraft dated after June 1991 .
All for now!

I am calling this one done. Decent build, some minor fit issues. Also most of the panel lines were raised. I went with the later appeareance rather then the 3 tone scheme. I kinda like doing the varying shades of grey. I cant wait to see that Orion that is in here, I have a hasegawa one laying around.

Great work everyone.
I wish I could check in more often but I'm still caught up apartment hunting, haven't touched plastic in weeks.

If I recall properly to paint orange there is a two step process one needs to go through. Base coat of flat white, then yellow then orange. This will eliminate the transparency of the orange and give you a better coverage.

Here's what I'd like to do for this campaign, though not sure if I'll get around to it...

Have always wanted to build one of these since I was a kid - my dad used to tell me he had built one when he was younger.

Question for the group: Would, by the campaign terms, a Nakajima A6m-2 Rufe qualify for this campaign build? I'm looking for a candidate to add to this that isn't a super long build. I have this kit coming shortly and I have some add on bits that will go with it. It was originally intended as a seaplane fighter but it was also used as a maritime recce platform. If the group feels its too close to the edge I guess it will have to be either a North American F-6B or a Yak 7 trainer.
Cheers,
Fred
