Okay folks: I found something out the other day about the marking for this a/c. They belong to Boris Guber of 19 KAO (must be a Russian Squadron designator). The cyrilic lettering is "Bob", that was his nickname, and apparently he flew three different ones, each one adding a number after "Bob". The orange and black "guidon" represents the order of St. George. The references I have and the photo's of other finished models show it without the top gun, so I will go without the top gun as well.
I am not quite finished, had a busy week and weekend, but made some progress and hope to have it finished by the weekend but that remains to be seen. Here are some pics so far.
I did wire the engine, but you can't see the wires but I know they are there.
I did wire the foot controls and put in seat belts:
A profile with the landing gear. I did get the lower elevator control horns rigged.
In the Tom's Modelworks PE Set for this is a Pitot tube set arrangement, so I included it, I think I put the mounting bracket on wrong. Naturally, I discoverd the error of my application AFTER I had it on. Oh well, better luck on the next one. I am hoping rigging will straighten the wing out.
That's it for now folks. Back to the drawing boards.

Hello Greg:
It is coming along, albeit slow. Thanks for the compliments. I think of the Hobby Craft kits, this is the bad one. The SPAD was a decent build, I haven't built the Camel or the Tripe, but this is definately not their best effort.

Hey Mark,
Must be bad weather in your neck of the woods and/or the Harley's broken down!? Sure been spending a little of the resulting time available well; she's looking real good and you've done an impressive job with a marginal kit. I like the uncommon colour scheme as well.
Looking forward to the final photos, she's most definitely "easy on the eyes"!
Cheers,
Lance

Hi Terri and Lance and thanks for the kind words.
Yes, the rainy weather has kept me inside for most of April and into May, the band is taking time as well. I was hoping to have this buttoned up by the weekend, but; it won't happen.
More photo's as the beast goes together.

Hi Greg:
Boy it is too nice to be sitting in the basement. I have been busy with motorcycling and stuff like that. I have only the top wing and weapons to put on, but my bench is in the basement and this time of the year here in the great upper midwest, I just hate to sit in the basement. One of these days I will be posting completed pics.
Thanks for checking in.
Take care all

I know the feeling Mark. Good for me I work in the evening and get home after everyone is asleep. I spend a couple of hours at the hobby desk, 8 hours sleeping then a few hours on yard projects. Weather has been warm but beautiful.

Okay:
I have about 4 hours if that left on this bird. I am going to make all preparation to wrap it up the week of 27 August in time to have two done for the KOTSII. Looking forward to KOTSIII as the weather begins to turn Autumnal here in the great upper midwest!

Okay: I finally finished this albatros. It didn't turn out too good, but it is done and thought I would share the picutres.
I apparently didn't pay as close attentin to the alighnement as I should have and it is a little out of whack. I won't be entering it in contests, but it is a neat airplaine, and I like the markings and I experimented with a little weathering.
I think my next effort will be to finish the SE5 Phoenix project.
Thanks for stopping by,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Good on you for finishing! From here it looks good – the markings are very nice, and so is the weathering!
I need to get me a Nie 17 in the collection – I have two hangar queens gathering dust...
All the best
Mikael

Thanks Guys:
It did feel good to finally finish it. My first weekend since May that I could actually spend time at home. Thanks Mikael, I carefully staged the photo's to lessen the effect of the lack of alignment.

Mark,
Nice finish; tell us more about the weathering (which looks good on her). I'm curious about how to get some weathering effect on a silver/aluminum finish without overdoing it, which you have done nicely.(I have a silbergrau scheme planned for the Pfalx DIIIa waiting in line)
Cheers,
Lance

Hi Lance: I used terpanoid and Winton oils with a real thin mixture of black and burnt umber, I just applied it with a brush that I wiped on a paper towel and just brushed it on. If it was too thick I wiped it down with a cotton swab and started over. I amazed myself.
Good Luck

Mark,
I really like the Russian markings and she turned out very well indeed. As it is with all our projects in this world ... NEXT! Always need to keep moving onto the next one.
