Hi all
How about a campaign for aircraft with cartoons on them.
Any scale any era any type as long as it has a toon on it.
Felix the cat on VF-3/31,Buster Gonad and Johnny Fartpants on R.A.F.Jaguars,Out House Mouse on a P-51 Chow Hound on a B-17,there must be loads out there, and if you cant find one you like, design your own let loose your artistic streak
No pin up girls,just toons
I've sent in a proposal to start in Jan 2013.
Whos up for this???

Hmmm, Disney characters were popular all over the place. Not just on American aircraft (some actually painted on the plane by Disney animators), but Donald Duck showed up on some Italian planes too.

Hmmm, interesting concept....trying to think what I've got that would fit....
Italeri 1/72 Herc with "Fat Slags" nose art
Tamiya 1/32 F-4C with Garfield or Puff the Magic Dragon nose art...

You can count Sam and I in. Sam has the Model Alliance decals in the stash for Op Telic Aircraft which includes some of the following toons:
Tornado GR4 'mean one' (the grinch)
Tornado GR4 'Born fighter' (Dennis The Menace)
Tornado GR4A 'look'n for twouble' (elmer fudd)
Tornado GR4 'Danger Mouse/Dallas Dhu' (Danger mouse)
Mean while I've always wanted to do these two KC-135's ever since I saw them in in the flesh at RAF Mildenhall before they rotated back to the US for the PACER CRAG upgrade.

Not only on Italian aircrafts, Mark. Remember the Bf 109 D of Werner Mölders and Adolf Galland during the Spanish Civil War? The both had Mickey Mouse on their planes. Or this one here:
In 2008 I've built a Bf 109 G6 (Academy) with sure the biggest Mickey on all Messerschmitts. It was flown by Major Horst Carganico from JG 5. On all his "109s" he had a Mickey Mouse in various sizes. I've seen several pictures of his planes. Oh, and the decals are from CAM.
Anyway, I might be in this campaign, if it doesn't get in the way with the night fighter campaign for me. I'll sure find something in my stash that fits. So let's wait and see ....
Happy modelling!

Only another 3 needed to make this a go. I think I would be torn for this one with either the Dangermouse tornado (Dangermouse is my favourite cartoon character ever) or one of my many Galland 109's with the mouse on the side or even at a push my 1/32 Hobbyboss spit with Donald duck on it.
Did a bit of googling and there are tons of sites to give ideas and inspiration as well

How can I not be in on this!
Off the top of my head I've got the Airfix CAC Boomerang which has Donald Duck nose art.
And if I'm feeling really ambitious and can clear some space to display the finshed article, theres the Revell PB4 Privateer which has cartoon nose art. I'm not sure of the character but he a grizzled old guy with a bottle of moonshine.

I might do both. The Boomerang is a fairly simple build and the Privateer's box is taking up valuable space

I like the idea, I'm in with an Airfix Hawker Hurricane 1/48 scale. If I remember correctly there was an a/c that had a cartoon of Churchill giving the boot to Hilter if so that is the scheme that I am shooting for.

There's the 242 Squadron flying boot which is reasonably famous. This shot is probably the most reproduced:

Here it is in colour:

Willie McKnight's aircraft is offered in the new Italeri kit and Aviaeology offers two different 242 Hurricanes among others (there's also an 85 Sqn night fighter on there...).

Jessica, thanks for the photo and link. After all these years I thought that the shirt was kakhi and the pants were off white. Again thanks for clearing that up for me. I noticed that there is no banner for this campaign, I think one would look good at the bottom of my description. Let me see if I am able to make one so as to get everyone else in the mood to come up with something.
Here is some wild practice strokes on PAINT, a lot more work needed I know but fun.

Count me in for this one. Have some great choices in the decal cooler, just don't know which one yet. Great campaign idea, by the way!

I joined this campaign with the thoughts it would be easy to find a kit that I wanted to build with an appropriate cartoon signature. After looking through my stash (+/- 250 kits), it became apparant nothing was biting me without purchasing AM produce.
If I want to build a Spitfire, Hurricane, or Mosquito, the choices are easy. But I'm most interested in early aviation, and I want to finish the campaign.
So I've settled on a resin 1/144 C-46 Commando, with Dumbo on the nose. As new as I would want it, but interesting enough to keep me active.
Just my thoughts.
