I havent built a Phantom in over 30 years and I dont have 1 in the stash but being that you are proposing a start date just under a year from now I guess I will have to start looking for 1

Love the idea, The company I work with we are still making parts for the Phantom. I guess that is why I'm on a Phantom kick right now. Looking forward to this. Rick

55th is a bit of an odd anniversary to celebrate
It's been a while since the last Phantom Campaign (2008) which was to celebrate the 50th Anniversary Phabulous Phantom
Either way if there is enough interest I will probably start the campaign on the 1st May for six months to fall in line with the current format of starting one campaign a month.

How about if you write it Phifty Phifth? Thats what I wanted to write originally but it wouldn't fit in the title box and the wife was hassling me for the PC.

That's 7 so far...looking good.
Anyone fancy a crack at a banner? I'm no good at that kind of thing, but maybe the Phantom figure with a 55 instead of a II on his chest?

I am on for this one.
Now it is only to decide whether to go for a Luftwaffe Phantom in a camouflage of greens or a Vietnam Phantom in SEA camo.

I am in with this build!
It will probably take me that long to decide which of the F-4's in my stash to do.

OK, I'll bite. I've got 6 or 7 Phantoms in the stash. Leaving out the Revell 1/32 F-4J (too big and I'll never get it done in a campaign timeframe), I've still got 1 (2?) R-M 1/48 kits and 4 in 1/72; Fujimii RF-4B, (US)Airfix F-4D, Hasagawa F-4E and Italerai F-4G.
So given that I'm a sloooow builder, any ideas which one might the the better choice? I'm leaning towards the Hase or the Fuji.

Mark, is it the old or new tool Hasegawa? New tool is the most accurate and detailed in 1/72, but quite fiddly due to the modular nature of the moulds so as to get as many variants as possible, old tool ain't so great. Fujimi J-79 engined variants are easier to build than Hasegawa, but not as accurate or detailed, Fujimi Spey engined variants are superb. Avoid the Airfix or Italeri unless you like a challenge
And by my count, that makes 10 - are we a go?

I suspect that the Hase is a 2nd gen tool. I'll have to dig it out. I have the Fujimi under my desk, looks like some of the same as many planes from 1 mold thinking too. The Italari and Airfix are in the stash some where, so I haven looked in years.
Since I have a terrible completion percentage, I think I'll opt for the Fujimi. I don't want to have months of filling and sanding left at the end of the campaign.

what ever happened to the new Fujimi 1/48 F-4 in the "Sundowners " markings due for release last year?
Posted: Friday, August 10, 2012 - 06:03 AM UTC
I had heard that Academy were also doing a new F-4B in 1/72 scale a while ago and then not much since.
Anyway, I'm seriously giving thought to a Fujimi FGR.1 in FAA colours or an FGR.2 in 6 Sqn markings from an old Modeldecal sheet. But there is also the 1:48 Revell F-4D my girlfriend bought me that she's been badgering me to finally do. Decisions????

Oh yes, a Phantom campaign would be nice. I have soooo many F-4 in my stash. As I have really nice decals of a Turkish Panther Sqn, I might go for that. Or should I build an "F" of the German Bundesluftwaffe with special markings? My Eurofighter needs some company .....
Anyway, May next year suits me well. I guess I'll join the party.
Oh, and of course "Spooky" must be in the banner and ribbon!!!

Couple of rule additions:
Prompted by the discovery that I had an unfinished F-4EJ in the last Phantom campaign, I'm going to allow unfinished builds in this campaign - provided they were entered in a previous Aeroscale campaign . Evidence must be provided.
What-Ifs not allowed, unless they are a real, proposed variant (evidence must be provided). So an in-service Israeli Kurnass 2000 would be acceptable, an Imperial Roman F-4 would not.
Not a rule, but I would like to see as many of the users of the F-4 represented as possible (bagsy me Japan and Greece )

I'm in, not sure what I'll do but I've got a couple sheets in the stash that need models, one F-4F in the stash that needs building and I'm drooling over that Sundowners F-4B boxing that Academy is apparently going to finally release this fall. I'll find something to do then.

I'm sorry but we can't allow this rule as it would be unfair to those that are starting from the beginning. (especially if the entrant from a previous campaign was at the decalling or weathering stage). Prompted by the discovery that I had an unfinished F-4EJ in the last Phantom campaign, I'm going to allow unfinished builds in this campaign - provided they were entered in a previous Aeroscale campaign. Evidence must be provided.
We have the Hanger Queen campaign each year, so members can enter their part built kits and campaign entries and still get a ribbon for all their efforts.
There is an unwritten rule however that a kit that normally is around 10% to 15% started can be entered at the campaign leaders discretion. so I will amend the rules to that effect instead.
