OK Gang,
Looks to me like it is launch day for this campaign ! I'll declare my build as the Revell 1/72 S-3B Viking. Not only Anti-sub, but also carrier based, you can't much more nautical than that.
So the big question now - are we going to have a banner ? Everyone needs to start digging and declare their entries ! Take it easy .......Bruce

I'll be building one or both of these, depending upon how the time goes.
The decals
Fuselage comparison
The Argus taped together
A bit of a mismatch is happening here. I'm not decided yet which way I'll solve it. Will I just file down the right side to meet the left, or will I insert a spacer into the left fuselage to lengthen it?

That looks like a serious bit of corrective work to me.
Mine-
I wish they had moulded in grey, but that aside I'm looking forward to it. I may not start it for a couple of weeks, got a Fokker and an Arado to finish.

Well, I posted this in the other VP thread but no-one had an opinion - help me out guys, what do you reckon?
Originally I was going to do either the Hasegawa 1/72 Orion, JMSDF, in these markings (I always liked this one because the stylised "Orion" on the tail looks like a baddy from Scooby Doo).
Alternatively I was going to do this 1/72 Revell S-3 Viking
But now, do I do a what if JMSDF Viking?
Or a what if JMSDF SV-22J Osprey? (Both were real-world proposals - more what mighthavebeens, rather than what ifs).

I like the Orion, but that's just because I like props
On further reflection and investigation, I have to make sure that the tailplane and wing roots line up properly. The wings line up nicely as-is, but the tailplanes are going to be a bear; they're even more out than the rest of the fuselage. I'm going to have to file away the leading edge of the left one and build up a new trailing edge. Break out the Milliput, this one's going to take some serious work.

Hi Neil, I'm with Jessie, I like the Orion, but which one do you really like.
Jessie I watched your struggle with the Boeing 247, no one can say you are not up for a challenge, this one looks much worse than the Boeing, but I'd bet now that it will look immaculate by the time you have finished.

Folks,
All Right, we have a good running start here. Except I forgot to show a shot of the kit in knockdown status. So if I can remember how to accomplish this correctly, below you will see the Revell 1/72 S-3B Viking in pieces. So far I have not really decided on the color scheme yet, I may just go with the box art - Air Wing 5 at Atsugi always had some great colors ! Take care...Bruce

Opened up the baggies on my Academy PV-1.
Not all that bad for a late '80's Academy kit. Didn't notice any gaps on the fuselage and the ventral gun bay may fit well enough that I can wait to the end to install it. Now I have to figure out how to do the dorsal turret without breaking the guns....

OK since that's 2 votes for the Orion, that's what I'll be doing, using the boxing below, in the Scooby Doo scheme above

Are fighters used for the anti-shipping role legit in this build? Say for example the F-4EJ or German Tornados?

No, those are attack aircraft. This build focuses on patrol.

Aurora on the left, Argus on the right, here I am, stuck in the middle...
Another problem arises. The Argus' right wing is much smaller than the root.
This is pretty typical with resin kits; the parts shrink. Out with the Milliput to build a fairing...

So, straight into this build. Cockpit isn't bad, but as very little will be seen when closed up, I'm just giving it a quick lick of paint.
Then 10 minutes later, I was at this stage It's going to slow down from now on though - I forsee lots of PSR and masking in my immediate future!
And some inspiration to finish, of a view from the office at the start of a typical workday

Folks,
Everyone's builds are off to a good start. But unfortunately I had a recent death in the family, and just can not get my head into the hobby. So I will be dropping out for now. Good luck, Gang ................Bruce

I got my Aeroscale Neptune out of the box today and found I have a slight problem...
two left wings!
this kit is over 20 years old and Aeroclub has been out of business for two years. I have a friend who has an unbuilt kit just like it, so I might b orrow the right wing and try my hand at resin casting.
failing that I have this Anigrand PV-1

John is still active and doing business. You can contact him through his page over at Britmodeller (his ID there is John Aero). E-mail him: sales(at)aeroclub-models.com He still has all his production moulds, so he may be able to help you track down a replacement.

Hopefully I'll have time to finish something for once. I'm going to do Trumpeter's 1/72 Gannet straight out of the box. I seem to be having trouble with attaching an image so I see what I can do later.

Well, nothing has happened in this thread for a while - a bit like my build, which has been sat waiting for a coat of white primer since Sunday. Unfortunately, its been permanent mizzle since then so I can't get outside to spray it

Finally whipped out the paint and got a dose of interior green and yellow laid down. Might get some pics later.

Finally getting started
Posted: Sunday, November 25, 2012 - 12:03 AM UTC
Halifax started at last, I'm staying in a hotel this week so good progress on assembly work and limited brush painting. First picture, more to come later. Fits so far are pretty good, except for the fuselage centreline join. Have found a couple of gotchas so far. I'll show those tomorrow. I have fitted the larger windows and will mask them with Maskol. The smaller ones I will glaze with clearfix after painting. The turrets will have to be masked as they have to be fitted beffore assembly. The kind of build is very appropriate for the Halifax as the original was made in road transportable sections.

Hi guys,I totally forgot about this GB,thanks to Jessica for reminding me.
Anyways you can follow the full build here
Blog
I have primed the cockpit and wheelbay areas :
The model is quite big for it's scale, there were some flash on the fuselages but there shouldn't be any major fit issues
Here are the seats and control columns,Ill try to add some detail to them.
Thanks for watching,Sven.
