I'm tackling a very primitive kit this time around.
The plastic bits are basic in the extreme, with lots of flash to clean up
But they're supplemented by a huge sheet of etch and a pair of white metal engines. The superdetail portion of the build is taken care of right out of the box
The plastic engines
Compare them to the metal engines with their etched accoutrements

Actually the tripod contacts make it pretty easy to attach & align. No need to heat & bend here. Just scuff and add sandwich beteen pieces of plastic strip stock.

Welcome to the GB!

It's an amusing accident of history that Pfalz Flugzeugwerke bought licenses to produce Moranes in the lead up to the War. Such would never be allowed to happen today. Encounters between the French and German versions must have been interesting to say the least.
What thickness of plastic would you recommend for the lamination? I'm guessing that the landing gear struts would also benefit from a laying on of plastic.

Great Choice Jessica, these old Eduard kits can be hard to tackle – but I'm sure you'll make a silk purse out of it!

That's a lovely build, Ryszard. Have we put in up on the front page yet?

Why not? I'd like to see them. Thank you for the warning about the decals, I'll put a coating on them before I use them.

Hey Jessie!
I'll upload them soon!
But

Mmm... What do you mean with coating the decals before using?
I had to paint the cocarde and give up the rest alltogether... So it sounds an interesting a technique.... Could ypu please explain it to me?

Oh my. That is quite spectacular. I hope our audience won't be too disappointed when my model ends up not looking as fantastic as that one. There's yet another which really needs its day on the front page. Do you have any of your in-progress pictures?
For coating decals, by far the best stuff in the world is
Microscale Liquid Decal Film. Simply brush it on, let it dry and then apply the decal as usual (Mine tend to want to curl up, so a bit of Solvaset can help to tame the wild decal).

Jessie!
Thank you for the info! Acually I never imagined something as decal coating... Surely a great idea when you have to deal with decals of dubious origins or old kits: I'll have to get me some of that stuff!
As far as my build, well, yes, I am very proud of it, I think it is my best yet, but I am still learning and stealing from you guys... But I am sure no one will ever be disappointed with your build too, Jessie!
Lastly, yes, I have some in-progress picture of the build, but I don't want to hijack your thread, I could open a new one if you think it is of some interst...

What I have in mind is to put together a weekend feature article

Can you send the pictures you have to me in e-mail please? Also a couple paragraphs or so explaining what you did when you built it.
jessica.cooper(at)aeroscale.co.uk will reach me.

So after leaving this one for way too long on the back of the desk, now's the time to give it some love. I spent about an hour folding and gluing to get to this point.
The rudder bar jumped out of my fingers as I was folding it so I've had to start scratch-building a replacement. No doubt it'll turn up just as I've finished gluing the replacement into the cockpit.
Once I have everything in place I'll apply the oil paint to make the wood grain effect.

Hi Jess,
I almost wanted to say "what a nice progress", but than your accident and Stephen's comment reminded me of similar accident that I had with one of the I-16's etched rudder peddals. I had to replace both with scratched items, and just as I've finished gluing the replacements (after six months working on the other kit) I found the missing pedal in the darkest of corners (btw, I was searching for another part!) Nevertheless, I saved the pedal for latter, because now I cannot recall where I've put the other one!
... I just wanted to confirm the rules 1d. and 1e.
All the best,
Entoni
