Finally, I got renovation out of the way, and was ready for defeating the stash …
It turned out differently.
First, the Stash sent another of its many allies, called PRESENT, into the fight. I found the new Revell 1/48 scale CH-53 under the X-mas tree. Now, the CH-53 is a model I have been looking out for since a few years so I can't complain, but only conclude that the stash wars will continue for a bit longer.
If that would not be enough, I also received an old model of a F-14 from a guy who once upon a time got this model as a present and never built it. In fact, he never built anything.
Last but not least, I discovered on the attic two models that were not accounted for in my stash inventory. A gorgeous F-16D (Block 52) and a colourful Skyhawk.
In 2013 I finalised quite a few models, some of them after the official stash war declaration, and I thought that I was making good progress. Today, it looks as if the Stash has an endless series of tricks up its sleeve and has me back in starting position.
2014 will be modelling fun. I wish each and any Aeroscaler a fantastic 2014, and a healthy love-hate relationship with his/her stash.
I SHALL PREVAIL

The Stash has another Ally, CAMPAIGN, just went and added an Eduard P-39N to the stash on the off chance the Overshadowed Fighters campaign will fly (it will) then while buying that I had to have a Revell Stearman and a Piper L-4N on floats, stash-3, me-0. The Big Bad Bombers arrives, none in the Stash, HP O-400 bought, Build off, Vampire bought. My Stash is fairly modest compared to many, only about 30 kits, but I still buy more than I build and the pile gets bigger. Target this year, Build more than I buy.

DrabSlab, 1st and foremost, very nice NMF on both the P-51D and the F84G builds. Just think of it as one battle won in a long and costly war.
I've swore to myself when I got back into modelling 3 plus years ago, no stash this time. Just one or two models in reserve, and hopefully one would be the next build that I was researching. 2 grew to 6, now I'm at 12. Sounds like a small number but it just grows by 1s & 2s every time I go to the LHP or order online.
Just today, I needed some paint. No big deal, so I drove to my LHS, got the paint, then more paint, a new bottle of Alcad II Aluminum, and then the monster struck. Next thing I knew I had just bought the 1/48 scale Kenetic Kfir C2, and ordered the 1/48 scale Academy F4B & F4C!!

I worked out a while back that at my current rate of building, I have approximately 20 years worth of models in the stash.
That of course is assuming that I don't buy any more.
Which of course is an utterly preposterous notion.

Yeah, I know that problem, stopped in for a specific bottle of paint, picked up a similar color that I might need instead and then there was this 1/72 P-35 calling my name.....

My name is Frank and I am a plastiholic. It has been 2 days since my last purchase...oh wait...it has been 32 minutes since my last purchase (darned internet). I built some kits as a youth many years ago but never really progressed much beyond oob builds with the odd stretched sprue in the way of detailing. I stopped once I "grew up" and was too old to play with toys. After a 4 year stint with the USMC, getting married, raising a family and a 30+ year career in law enforcement, I now see the prospect of having some spare time and am easing back to the work bench. It is none too soon since I never stopped collecting and have accrued a stash that includes some 219 kits of almost every make and model of aircraft ever to see service with the Marines in 1/72 scale as well as examples of many of the enemies they faced (42 Imperial Japanese, 10 North Korean, 6 North Vietnamese and 10 Iraqi aircraft). I have an exact count since I meticulously catalogued them, by hand at first and then on an excel spread sheet when these new fangled computers became indispensible. I also have an unknown collection of ships, armor and aircraft in various scales that have been up in the rafters in the garage for 30 years. As if this is not enough, lately, I have become very nostalgic about my USMC service as a heavy vehicle operator 1976-1980 and have been buying 1/35 scale examples of all of the equipment I operated or hauled when serving with 1st Tank Battalion and 3rd Combat Engineers. But I don't have an addiction, I can quit any time I want to.... Well, maybe after I find kits for all of the squad cars and motorcycles I have operated from the 1977 Plymouth Sebring to the 2007 BMW RT1200. At least my stash isn't in the thousands like some of you out of control plastiholics. That's just crazy.

Terri,
Just saw this. You do realize that you will have to live to at least 150 to even come close to building them all.

Sadly enough, renovation is back, with a vengeance.
I haven't enjoyed the fumes of glue or enamel for months now; With serious withdrawal symptoms as a consequence.
At this pace, the dmnd stash is going to win

Frustration about losing a friend led to some compulsive buying. The stash is now one voodoo and one skyraider stronger.
The worst of it, it doesn't bring my friend back

Sorry about your friend.
I've managed to keep the kit acquisitions down lately. Fortunately the vendors are helping out by not offering any kits I want at prices I'm willing to pay.. OTOH, I just ordered a bunch of AM for some projects on the bench.

AM is just sub-category of stash wars...

I lose!
12,000 miles away from home, I find a hobby shop, he's got one of the kits on my list, at an OK price. Boom... the stash grows by 1.

LOL. That's my signature.
Why do you think I have the screen name I have? Happens every time I go to a model show and those bargains just jump into my hands!

At one time I thought this was possible, to build (or sell or give away) all of them, and return to a normal life.
but then a box comes in the post...ok, I paid for it...

OK, but three A-10's and 3 of another kit may be a bit too much.

Good for you Drab. Kill the monster!
I recently sold off a good chunk of my stash to come down from 30 to a dozen that I couldn't part with (and a couple that aren't worth selling).
Keep it up!

I've been having a good chuckle reading this thread. I have been back modelling for just a little over 12 months or so and my kit count is around 90. It grew on the weekend when I went to buy paints (like other people here) and came out with Eduards Combo P-39 MTO kit.
I just imagine a bunch of us standing over the stash, wringing our hands together, whispering,,,,My precious.

Greetings,
Cool thread. My stash is now up to 40+ kits. This doesn't include the sets of figures and the sets of figures that have had only one or two cherry picked from them. Not to mention the weapons sets, jerry can sets, and other accessories sets. I like shopping at the LHS, eBay, and on-line hobby stores. I was fortunate in that I decided to scale back my buying and what do you know my campaigns into next year were already covered by my stash. I celebrated by testing my clairvoyant skills and bought more kits. When I look at my stash my heart rate quickens, I have an idea and research for each kit. I look through the boxes and say to myself "I'll get to that kit and that idea soon. But the stash is going to win, I'm not even going to calculate build rate vs time I have left on this earth. I' m enjoying this too much.
