Really good looking P-47! I love that brief time when we bordered out national insignias in red.

You wrote that it is not yet complete so the following may be moot. If I may, the exterior appears glossy. Have you dulled it down yet? To me shading panel lines = weathering. If this Jug is meant to have seen some service, consider carrying the grime onto the decals (Yeah, I hate to do it too.)

I'll add a few more weathering touches before its done. It does have a couple of matte coats, and it is much flatter than post Future, but it does have a slight satin sheen that is not helped by an Iphone with a flash.

Your suggestion is taken to heart though. I'll have to weight my options since I've removed the canopy masks already.

I built all of the Arii (formerly Otaki)Japanese and USN fighters, plus the P40 and Spitfire XIII. They were (are) nice kits if you do not mind low-relief cockpit detail, thick canopies, and every rivet embossed. I've read that while their American subjects were very accurate, some of their Japanese planes had inaccurate shapes. I would not hesitate to enjoy an Arii model today as for the money they are as pleasing as modern kits.

You could always claim that the markings were freshly painted on right after the order came out

Nice job Fred! I recently picked up one of these at the LHS for nearly pocket change. Your build confirms it to be a decent looking kit. Im hoping to try my hand scratch building some cockpit detail for it and practice some different weathering techniques

Fred, your Jug is really looking good. I particularly like how the preshading came out. Should blend in even nicer once you flat coat it.

Yes, mission complete. I ask forgiveness for the picture quality as I whizzed these pictures out with an Iphone this morning before work, but this bird is done and airworthy.

Fred, A clean, neat, rock solid build. Congrats, it looks great. If this is the old Otaki kit, then I actually built one more then 30 years ago. God, that makes me feel even older then I actually am.

Age is a number. I consider myself pretty young. The first kits I remember building were Entex and MPC 1/72 planes in the early seventies. I was probably 5 years old.

Remember "sniff proof" glue? The whole house would smell of fake oranges!

I remember the fake glue, did it actually hold parts together??

I was building models in the early 60s when glue was glue, and no one knew about sniffing it. Hell, if our parents caught us sniffing glue, we get a beating that would send a parent to jail for life these days. I also remember in the 70s using the new super glue: MEK. Now that stuff really smelled, but did it ever glue plastic parts together.

What a beautiful build. I really like how all is balanced out. And as mentioned by others the preshade comes through really nice. All the weathering is actually subtile, yet really realistic.

Howdy,

Very nice build! My one complaint about the Otaki P-47 was the spindly landing gear.

As I suffered from a case of AMS for a few years, I ended up with a lot of leftover parts (cockpits, etc.). I like to use Arii/Otaki kits as a place to put them to good use. I usually can get them to fit with a minimum of effort.
