Fred get off your duff and watch porco rosso! I'll get everyone on this site to see that film if it's the last thing I do!

Richard, Jonathan;

I read with interest the campaign and even read a synopsis of the movie. It sounds fun. OK, I gotta try to find the movie.

In short , no - you don't need an airbrush . Like others have shown here with a bit of practice you can turn out great looking models . I really only use my airbrushes for pre-shading / post shading , some this which really can't be done with a brush using paint , this is when pastel chalks come in hand . Other then that every thing is brush painted on my builds .

What type of paints do you use ?

Hi Joel , Some of it yes . Cockpit is hand painted , turret gun , Tow launchers and finer details . Every thing was airbrushed even the dull coat .

Terri,
But you airbrushed the basic over all color?

Brush painted Hannover CL.II:

Go bottom page for finished pictures...

It's more natural to brush paint Early Aviation as most doping is quite rough and lumpy - I haven't touched my airbrush for anything other than application of sealant / dull coats in over 2 years.

I use Model Master Acryl - it's by far not the best paint for brushing on (or airbrushing) but you develop a knack for any kind of paint, adjusting technique accordingly. It's cheap (and so am I) and pro's are using 50-70% less paint, no colored dust in the house and no more masking! Paint brushing adds natural modulation and you spend more time painting and less time cleaning/prepping.

You need to remember that this is a hobby, and it is supposed to be fun . And it is up to you, but you should not be so worried about if others like what you do, how you do it, or what it looks like. If YOU like it, it is good. That being said there are several types of paint that brush paint very well. If you can get it where you are, my very first suggestion for brush painting is always Humbrol. They are fantastic for brush painting. It is actually very difficult to get brush marks in this paint if you were trying to. It's just awesome stuff.

Got to agree Humbrol Enamel is the best brush paint. Pre-Aeroscale build 1/48 Tante-Ju. All brushed, I didn't have an airbrush then.
