Hi
last sunday i started a P-40 from Hasegawa. This are nice kits
but they don t fall together. Hase tried to get every version
out of this mouldings. The kit has differend aft fuselages
differend gun panels and so on. I believe when you following
the instructions, you run in serious fit problems. I started
with the wings and fuselage, it looks a bit brutal. [] " TARGET="_blank">http://put.url.here[[URL=http://s1372.photobucket.com/user/berndmueller11/media/P-40gunpanel_zps1ac925cd.jpg.html]]

....... and it was [[URL=http://s1372.photobucket.com/user/berndmueller11/media/Wingsfuselagesanded_zpsea69e281.jpg.html][[URL=http://s1372.photobucket.com/user/berndmueller11/media/instruments_zpsb58f81f9.jpg.html]" TARGET="_blank">http://put.url.here[[URL=http://s1372.photobucket.com/user/berndmueller11/media/P-40underwing_zps2df164c6.jpg.html][[URL=http://s1372.photobucket.com/user/berndmueller11/media/Wingsfuselagesanded_zpsea69e281.jpg.html][[URL=http://s1372.photobucket.com/user/berndmueller11/media/instruments_zpsb58f81f9.jpg.html]]]
most of my " Cockpitshots " were crappy. The only usable was
the instrument panel. But it looks bad too. I will build this
more or less out of the box.The only addition are True Detail
wheels a masking set from Eduard and differend decals. At first i plan a RAF Desert Air Force bird from a Sky Models sheet, but i learn GA - ? was not a E modell ( Kittyhawk I ). So it will be a Tiger. Boring ? I think this " Chin " needs a sharkmouth. More later

Hi Bernd,

When you add images to your forum, contain them in "bracket i m g close bracket" and end it with bracket slant i m g close bracket". That should do it. If not, write me and we'll figure this out.

Yes, I found the fit of the kit disappointing. You can see the entirety of my build here: https://aeroscale.kitmaker.net/forums/55766

Beside struggeling with uploading pics, the modelling part of
the day was successful. the bad fit is behind me and my bird
got some color. On the bright side of the kit are the good
fitting canopy parts. The rest should be easier.
It will be the plane from Col. Scott ( 23 FG ) China 1942
The decals are from Sky Models. Sadly Mr Google refused to
spit out Pictures from the real plane.

Hi Bernd,

I just noticed in my post that the code for posting pix did not show. Looks like you figured it out anyway.

Looking forward to you P-40!

Hi Bernd,
sorry, but I cannot see your photos, as you have removed them.
If you mean 1/48 scale, I guess Hasegawa's P-40 are the best you can get on the marked. So far I have build 5 of them (plus one Kittyhawk from AMT and one Tomahawk from Trumpeter) and the fitting is close to perfection. The only smaller "problem" is the canopy, which you better keep close. If you like you can write me a PM and we can disuss your problems in our native language ....

Happy modelling
Torsten

PS: Fred, nice Aleutan Tiger! I love the P-40

One of my favourite aircraft. Nice paint job, subtle panel lines.

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished model.

PM is Private Message. Click on a person's post where it says "message" to send one. Also, look at the upper right corner of your screen where it says "Inbox". If you have a yellow number showing, that means you have a message waiting to be read.

Thank you both for the advise and motivation. The fun begin again.
After i found some pictures of the real thing, i tossed the Quickboost wheels, they have the wrong pattern and far too little air pressure at the tires
While painting it, i started to dislike Hasegawas heavy rivets under the aft fuselage glazing.
The landing gear struts on the plane looks brighter than the camoflaged undersides it could be silver.
More modelling and pics later on.

Hi,got some time for my P-40 after a few weeks.
At first i removed these rivets under the aft cockpit glazing
and painted this area again. After this, the kit got a coat of
clear varnish. After this the surface was still a bit rough.
At this point i decided to fill access panels, flaps, ailerons
with a dark wash to distinguish them from the rest of the panels. After this has dries the P-40 got a polish with toothpaste.
