Time for an update, as I will have finished this one before I can turn around. The underside is sprayed, and I have just demasked it, ready to mask the underside tomorrow and spray the main colours.

@Lee, the Tucano is looking good, looking forward to seeing the finished bird.
The Phantom is coming along nicely. Finished decaling it.
Then I used Testors Clearcote to seal in the decals and give it a very glossy shine.
The only things left to do now is the canopies, landing gear, and of course, some more touch-ups.
That's all for now so

Looking real sharp there Bruce!
Got the camouflage and the anti glare panel on. Now I have a bit of a challenge with the painting of the prop. You'll see what I mean next time!

Even seeing her through the blurry photo's, the F-4 looks great. A true showman. Well done

Hi Ben, thanks
Blurry photos, unfortunately, is the best I can do without a real camera
Mobile phone cameras really aren't up to the task

Good stuff there Bruce!
Right! The Tucano is done, I'm away for a few days at the D-Day memorial events. When I get back next week, I'll make a start on the main event.
Cheers!

A little inspiration for you Richard.
Note the tail art, this is to mark the Red Arrows 50th Anniversary this year. I took these on Saturday at Folkestone Airshow ( I also saw them on Thursday, marking the D-Day commemorations over Southsea and Portsmouth).
Cheers!

And so to the main event:
This boxing really is the curate's egg, ie parts of it are excellent. The decals (cartograph) are perfect, as anyone who has built a recent newly tooled Airfix will have come to expect. The newly tooled weapon sprues are brilliant too, featuring a pair of Storm Shadows, and there are new tooled bits for the GR4 and GR4a. In stark contrast, the rest of the kit appears to be from Airfix's original release of the MRCA (the clear part sprue has MRCA on the tag), complete with acres of flash and raised panel lines.
As good as the new weapon sprues are, I won't be using them as the two GR4's that were repainted for 617 SQN's 70th anniversary last year were never armed. So, job 1 for me is to rescribe the fuselage, wings and tail, and get it to a stage where it is worthy enough to wear the beautiful decals.
Cheers Everyone!

Took the masks off and tried one of the decals, this one I used Decal Film on as it was quite damaged.
Cheers Rob.

I guess it's time for me to get my act together for this show
Here's my victim
It has a rather comprehensive decal sheet, but like all AModel decals it will be challenging
And for such a small model the parts are a trifle intimidating
First task is going to be cleanup. Lots of it!

Onto the main event then. As mentioned earlier, this Airfix Tornado needs a lot of work to bring it up to modern standards. I have begun by adding some thickness to the wing roots, or "shoulder pads" by laminating on some 0.2 mm plasticard, and sanding to shape. Next up, I will be taking off all the raised panel lines on the wings, tail and upper and lower fuselage, before rescribing the lot.
Cheers Everybody!

Got some more decals on, not too bad considering how old they are, the whit part has a lot of cracks in it but they went on in one piece.
Cheers Rob.
