well spring is upon us and the airshow season is just around the corner so its time to get our favourite display aircraft kits out and get building !!

....and we're off! This kit will be the "amuse bouche", with a more substantial main course to follow. This is the RAF Tucano display team plane, in 2013 season colours. Also note the wholly appropriate screensaver!

Let me know how that one goes John I have the Academy version, I have built a Russian Knights before and have a big selection of decals to choose from. But I will see what the kit ones are like. The one I built was a replica of the one that crash landed at a show, the SU-27 is such a hardy aircraft, it took off and returnd to base without much repair work.

The old Monogram F4J (Not to be confused with Monograms recent re release of the USAF F4C)and CamPro F4J Blue Angel circa 1969 decals.

Inside the box....uh oh Black Plastic!

Where'd everybody go?
I put a coat of primer on that black plastic and put together the cockpit





and from the back


I used Life Colors Dark Ghost Grey for the pit itself and Model Master Enamels for the OD seats and flat black for the instruments.
I apologize for the poor quality images, but I haven't been able to replace my camera yet

Next I glued the pit into the fuselage and added a nose weight. I know that most F4 kits usually sit quite well on their nose gear, however, with my luck. So better safe than sorry.

Yes, there is a nice spread of different aircraft types and nationalities on display. Time for a progress pic. as the Tucano is practically built (not a great deal to the kit). Quality wise it certainly isn't up there with the newer kits Airfix is producing, but not as bad as some of the really old ones. Only one slight issue to report, the instructions call for 7 grammes of weight in the nose. With the best will in the world, there just isn't enough space for that much ballast in the nose. I used about 4 grammes, and some of that had to go on the inside of the wings leading edge.

Not great detailing, was expecting more from such an expensive Hasegawa kit.
Next flanker might have some resin seats...
Anyway, back to the bench !!

Hi. Well, I have gotten the seams puttied and cleaned up.
I puttied the seam, wiped it down with a cotton swab soaked in nail polish remover (with acetone in it) and then lightly sanded with about 2000 grit sanding pad.







and you see why I need to go buy some more white primer.

Annnnd...another update,

I have gotten the fuselage primed, and then added the air-intakes. Fit wasn't perfect, but I got a fairly good seal after some sanding and fiddling about, but I still had to putty, so once again I needed to re-prime the plane.



After I finished that, it was time to start laying on the colour coats.

I sprayed matte aluminum paint onto the tail planes and the rear of the Phantom.





After that I was about to tape off the bare metal parts and spray on the Blue Angel Blue, when I realized that the leading edges of the wings, tail and stabilizers, as well as the leading edges of the air intakes are supposed to be metal

So I got my trusty can of Krylon out and just shot the entire airframe aluminum!



So this where I am sitting right now. How's everyone else doing?

The F4 is looking good Bruce ... im not sure where everyone eles is upto but im still on hold at the moment until iv finished my Honda

Another update on Big Blue;

I got the B.A.B. laid down...I used the Model Master rattle can for this, after masking off all the bare metal parts, of course



Then I got set for decaling. The CamPro set has everything on it to do any one a/c of the 1969 season, plus they give you a block of colour, just in case



Which, it turns out, is a good thing because I found out the difference between the the Tamiya kit, which the decals are made for, and the Monogram kit, which I am using.



The Monogram kit is just a bit wider than the Tamiya one. Of course, while trying to get the 2 decals to line up properly, and just as I was realizing what the problem really was, the starboard side decal ripped...
My fault, of course, but really



So, that's where we stand for now. As I said thank goodness for that spare colour block on the decal sheet. I have a feeling I'm going to be using it all

Hi guys. Really good looking progress photos. As I was babling with my Japanese birds last night I decided to have a look at the site after a long time and I saw this campaigne. Enlisted and poped open my 1/72 Airfix Hawk T.1 and started right away. Progress photos coming soon.

Just found parts of the Sukhoi's cockpit on the floor, after the cleaning lady leaving on Thursday...
Found the cockpit bay and the seat but no joystick...

My condolences. Have a sudjestion though. Trying to scratch build the part generally works on finding it in my experiences. I don't know why or how but whenever I lose a part, I rebuild it and it mirically returns:}
