Welcome to the Canvas Falcons I: 1914-15 Campaign!

The campaign will run from November 11, 2014 through November 11, 2015.

One of the aims of the campaign is to promote WWI building so please post your initial photos in this thread but post your in-progress work in a blog on the Early Aviation forum with a link in this thread. Please post your finished build photos in your blog and in the campaign gallery.

Looking forward to some great builds of aircraft of World War I to commemorate the centennial!

And now we've started, I believe I've found a possible entry that will fit into the 1914-15 time frame:





Most of my WWI experience so far has been WNW and Eduard, so this could be a challenge, but we'll see. Not starting a build log until I'm ready to start (which isn't quite yet) but this one is from 1915 so it looks like it might be the one.

I'm getting this 1/48 Pfalz E.I in here, so I can begin anytime. Some reading has shown me that the first few E.I's were on the front line in October of 1915, so I believe that is within the bounds of the wars first year.

The kit has been started only by having parts removed from the sprue.




With 4 models in various stages of progress on the bench right now, I won't be able to post an early aviation blog until winter. I'd like to get all those done this year. However, I may start soon with engine and prop wood, in time frames where parts and paint are curing. This post allows me to start anytime.

Not sure about my entry, but I think my Fokker DR 1 Dual Combo kit from Eduard will be my first Plane build in Thailand.

Hello speedy! Nothing to be unsure about your kit is within the rules. The 1914-1915 theme is being encouraged but all early aviation subjects are allowed.

I have an unfinished eduard dr1 that I may enter as a hangar queen and finish up before starting an eduard eindecker.

Ok! Just to be site. It's a double entry in that case.
Starts soon after my first stage of the Ferrari engine build.

Well this is not a good start, just opened the box and I have 2 part B sprues but no part A. Will have to contact Eduard tomorrow.

Paul & Mike: we can just blame Jessie for all of her beautifully rigged airplanes that at least in my case lured me into that nether region of biplanes and wires and then thank her for the help she has shown to us neophytes of WWI rigging.

She and several others, this forum is almost entirely responsible for my interest in ww1 aircraft.

Btw are there any aftermarket decals for eindeckers? Im quite happy to use the kit sheet, i dig the black and white stripes but im curious if there are other options that might catch my eye. Im off to google that myself but curious about any input

I haven't had a chance to do any building in about six months, so it should be quite an adventure!

Anyway, I've cleared a bit of space in the disaster area that I call my workroom, and the kit looks to be the way I left it after doing the in-box review, with a few bits test fitted, so it's time to stop waffling and make a start!

The idea was to help generate traffic on the Early Aviation forum and to spread WWI techniques. So everyone participating is supposed to run a build thread there with a link to it from this thread. Hope that's ok!

With the centennial of the Great War occurring now, our focus will be on the aeroplanes of that time, but all aviation up through 1934 will be welcome. Similarly, while Canvas Falcons I will focus on the first year of the war, 1914-15, all models fitting into the Early Aviation time frame will be eligible for an award. Each builder will run a build log on the Early Aviation forum with a link to it in the Canvas Falcons Campaign thread. Show us your work, ask questions, enjoy your build (and everyone else’s) and learn about those brave pioneers of the sky!

The Rules and Regs
1. Open to:
a. All builds.
b. All vendors.
c. All scales.
d. New.
e. In progress.
f. Unfinished hangar queens. But must be finished for this campaign.
g. All mediums.
h. Kit conversions, OOB, super detailed or any combination thereof.
i. Prototypes or main production versions.
j. Color scheme from a real subject and relevant to your build (no what-if).
k.Entries cannot be used for more than 1 campaign.
l. The build has to be blogged in the Early Aviation forum here at Aeroscale."
