Tamiya 1/48 F-51DI'll be building Tamiya's excellent F-51D as 'The Enchantress', a P-51D-25 on Iwo Jima during the VLR missions to Japan and the surrounding islands. Tamiya's F-51 has all of the same parts as their 8th AF P-51 kit, plus options for HVAR rockets, bombs, standard or Dallas canopies, and cuffed Hamilton Standard (P-51D) or Aeroproducts (P-51K) props. The only P-51 option it doesn't offer is the 108gal paper tanks. Not bad considering it's typically cheaper than their P-51D kits just because the decals are for Korea. I picked mine up for $18 retail and spent the money I saved on an Eduard Zoom for the cockpit.
I am waiting for some True Details seats to come in the mail to get started.

Seems to get a little tricky, as it is kind of short-run, with some resin parts and a vac canopy I think, but I'm looking forward to build it. It was fascinating to watch the real racers going round the pylons at Reno, Nevada, last year.
If everything goes well with my kit, maybe there's another one to build. That would be an airplane of the Salvadorian Air Force during the so-called "Soccer War" of 1969. We'll see
Looking forward to your entries and models! Let's have fun!

I hate you guys

You're already gluing parts together and I don't even know where the kit I want to build is stashed away.

I'm sure I've got a Model News Na-73 or a Condor A-36 some where.

Some time ago, I reviewed
this beast.
This will be my entry in the Mustang campaign because hey, I like doing things which are a little off the beaten track

And for my next trick, I will attempt to assemble the Monogram P-51B
Seriously, what I want to do is a P-51 circa early 1944. Pre-April 1 anyway. Thanks to Nigel Franklin over at Kits-World decals. I have his decal sheet #148028 P-51 Mustang Numbering/Lettering/"Kill" Markings Camouflage Finish.
The pre-April 1 date is important because before then all Mustangs (really, all US fighters) carried white noses and theater bands. By April 1, 1944 all US fighters carried the 2 color group markings assigned by VIII Fighter Command.
The 357th FG became the second highest scoring group in Europe, producing 42 aces including Kit Carson, Charles Yeager and Bud Anderson.
I will be using Merle Olmsted's book "The 357th Over Europe" and an article Merle wrote for Wings magazine in February 2001 as reference for the aircraft I want to do.
So, basically, I want to do a OD over Neutral Grey P-51B with a white nose and theater bands coded for the 357th FG.
Should be simple enough

Good Day
An update on my Mustang,
She has her silver coat on

and have painted her nose blue, but the blue does not want to dry, after about 2 hours last night it was still a bit sticky, I fear I may have some finger prints in the paint will have a look tonight when I get home from work.

Sorry I've been gone for a bit, but I wound up having emergency surgery on Friday morning.
I have gotten a bit more done on my Mustang, but never got the chance to post the pictures until now.
On the paint stand and ready for primer,
And
Primed and camo applied. The Olive Drab is out of the Model Masters rattle can, and the Neutral Gray is out of Tamiya bottles.
Next on the list is GlossCote and decals.

What Ho!

First lot of progress to report - painted the interior parts prior to assembling the fuselage. As I am depicting "Ferocious Frankie" as she appears at UK airshows today, rather than how she looked during the war (there are a few differences in the markings), I have swapped out the pilot for one in more modern attire (Hawker Hunter pilot actually!).

You might notice that the spinner has been sliced in half, as I will be depicting the propeller spinning.
Cheers Everyone!

Started my kit with unpacking and a decent washing of plastic and resin parts
Looks like a lot of sanding, putty etc., but that's what we want, isn't it?
