hello guys !
it looks like the interest for the rising sun group build has faded away...
let me remind you : japanese planes from war in China till the end of WWII.
newtothegame and I are ready to start, so if you want to join, go ahead, just tell us ! There's nothing official, we are only going to exchange info, advices...
I'm going to start my Ki-61 I tonight. I hope the cockpit is ready by the end of the WE... or perhaps the WE after... I'll be able to take pictures in a bit more than a week.
I'm using an eduard set for this aircraft.

I'm doing Tamiya's a6m5c zero also with an Eduard set. I will probably start working on it this weekend and will start to post progress pictures as soon as possible.

Hi guys
I'm still definitely in on this one and, last I heard, Holdfast was very keen.
I've still got to finish my WoW build , but I'll start thinking what to do for Rising Sun..., I might have a crack at FineMold's Mitsubishi Reppu, which I reviewed a while back. Of course it would also be fun to try some extreme weathering, so I'll have a look at what's on the shelf (believe me, there's plenty! )
All the best, and good building
Rowan

:-) Yep I'm up for this, as it aint official does that mean that there's no time limit? I've got so much on the go it could take me a year to complete this. I intend to do an Aichi D3A1 Val, with a CMK cockpit and wing fold.

Well I just finished my DFA entry so I'd best strike while the iron's hot, I'm in with a Kawanishi E7K1 Type 94 Model 1 "ALF" on catapult ( kit by Hasagawa, 1/72 as usual for me)
I've had this kit for a long time, bought it for the catapult and never got around to it. Well here's my excuse to build it at last, Thanks
Not much up on Japanese aircraft but it should be colorful by the references I have, gee Japanese, a biplane, and a sea plane haven't tackled any of those in quite a while. Should be FUN. #:-)

Great to see you here guys !
I don't think we need a time limit, given the fact it's unofficial and we're not that many.
But it would be good if at least a few of stuck together, to keep the "group effect" !
After studying the Ki 61, I found out the one I'm interested in should not be weathered at all !
It's from the 244 th sentai and has green mottled over alluminium. And it's very clean !
So, that's OK.
But I realy want to do something more dirty... so I'll just have to start my Fine Molds Ki 43 at the same time ! And this one I'll weather !

update on my progress :
- KI 61 : the cockpit is beginning to look like what it should be... it's taking a bit of time because I'm using Eduard PE.
- KI 43 : the fine molds 1/48th kit is great ! The cockpit was very easy to assemble, and I find it very nicely detailed right out of the box !

Hi all,
If there is not going to be any time limit for the Rising Sun then I'll join up for the fun.
I will be working on the Tamiya 1/32 A6M5 Zero.
I just hope that I don't lag too far behind the rest of you guys. I am still waiting on a PE set for the engine detailing even tho I can definately do other stuff on the kit without that for now.
Also this time of year being so cold here in Illinois. My work bench and stuff is out in an unheated garage so I really don't get to get out and paint and work on my models like I really want to. I don't have the capability for airbrushing inside. And as of yet, I am not quite sure when I will actually be able to start on it.
Well....flimsy excuses aside #:-) , I'm here for the ride if there is still an open seat.
Since this isn't an official campaigne do I need to go anywhere on site to sign up for anything or is this just going to be kind of a small group get-together build type of thing?
Good modeling all,
Wayne

Welcome aboard guys !
No you don't need to sign up anywhere.
I hope to finish building the subassemblies of the Ki 61 cockpit tonight.
Then, I can paint both cockpits before the end of the week and weather them a few days later !

Hi Mitch, welcome to Armorama, and to this little informal group build, looking forward to seeing some of your pics
Started on my Val, only removed the resin pours on the wing tips and cleaned them up, but it's a start. :-)

Hi guys, just got my membership here
Hi Mitch,
Welcome aboard! Diving straight into a build like this is the best way to get to know everyone - that's what I did, and everyone was so friendly and encouraging, they proved straight off why Armorama is the best Modelling Site - bar none!
Great to have you with us - have fun!

I'm still in! It just so happens the forum at Finescale Modeler has a group build for Pearl Harbor aircraft so I'll be in a 'rising sun' state of mind anyway. So as not to get away with two-group-build-one-model, I'll do the 1/48 (or more accuratley, 1/50) FM-1 'Pete' by Tamiya for this build. What is the end date?

Ok with me, penpen.
Here's a question. There used to be some great articles at J-aircraft regarding the color of Japanese aircraft intereriors. The are no longer available and I'd like to know if anyone has a copy of them they could share - Or at least let me know what the cockpit colors of a Pearl Harbor A6M2 and FM-1 'Pete' would be? It seems IJ aircraft cockpit colors varied greatly over both time and aircraft making it difficult to determine what a given aircraft interiro might be.

Auroa, most if not all Japense aircraft used a light greenish blue in there interiors, to prevent corrosion, kind of like the USAAF used Chromate Green. I bought Japenese Interior Metalic Blue, #2119, from Model Masters. It worked out great in my Ki84 cockpit...

I hate to disagree with Mitch, but it seems that Aotake wasn't as prevalent as the early painitng instructions would have us believe.
For the Mitsubishi, use:
FS 24098
And a sample can be seen here: Mitsubishi Interior green
Here's the relevant FAQ from j-aircraft:
Interior Colors
Hope this helps,
Mika

Madmeex,
You beat me to it! I just found that link and was about to post it!. A more complex subject than one would think. #:-) I'm going to print that link and save it in my reference material library.

I guess I'll get in and try something here. I have a Nichimo KI-45 or maybe I'll get something new.

Hi there
My refs agree with Mika; crew areas seem to have been painted in the "normal" way. The IPMS Color Cross-Reference lists two FS. colour matches - not by manufacturer, but by "navy number":
N.4 Light Gray Green - FS. 34226
N.5 Light Olive Green (Bamboo) - 34098
Hope this helps

Heh. I'd like to know how many zero's I painted with metallic blue-green interiors, before the 'net set me straight (and Robert Mikesh' Japanese Aircraft Interiors)
Anyway, with no end date, count me in. I've got a Seiran begging to be built.
Mika

Wow, that was weird...most of my message didn't show up in that last thread. Everybody must know by now that I am really happy tho...
I finally got officially started on my Zero. Basically just have the interior base coat done on all the relevant parts. Now am ready to start doing a bunch of detailing with the knobs, buttons, levers, doing the control panel,etc....
Oh the joy of it
Good modeling and :-) be happy,
Wayne
