Names with Thunder and Lightning in them have been popular for aircraft for many years. Right off I can think of:

Lockheed P-38 Lightning
Macchi C.200 Saetta (Arrow/Lightning)
Kawanishi N1K1 snd 2 Shiden (Lightning)
Arado Ar 234 Blitz (Lightning)
E.E. Lightning
F-16C/D Barak (Israeli Lightning)
Lockheed-Martin F-35 Lightning II
Republic P-47 Thunderbolt
Republic F-84 Thunderjet
Republic F-84 Thunderflash
Republic F-84 Thunderstreak
Republic F-105 Thunderchief
Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II
USAF Thunderbirds (extra points if it an F-84 or F-105!)
Macchi C.202 Folgore (Thunderbolt)

And I'll bet there are more. This campaign would allow any aircraft (or other vehicle) whose official or popular name includes the words Thunder or Lightning. Further, if the airplane or vehicle was named Thunder or Lightning by it's crew (and had the name or picture painted on) it would also qualify.

Let's see where this one goes!

Macchi C.200 or 202 (this one's a bit confusing. Perhaps an Italian expert can help out?)

Macchi Mc.200 Saetta is translated as Archery Bolt or Arrow but can be used as in 'to be as quick as a LIGHTNING BOLT' so is open to the context in which it is used.
Macchi Mc.202 Folgore is Thunderbolt
Macchi Mc.205 Veltro is Greyhound
Macchi Mc.205N Orione is Orion

Hope that adds to your confusion Michael, oh and I'll be in either a P-38, F.2 or F-35.

I have several qualifying kits, I'd certainly be interested in this. If the Saetta qualifies Ill build that in 1/72 but also have P38, N1K2, EE lightning, and ar234 so im covered no matter what mood im in. Any Russian or Soviet aircraft with a "lightning" nick name?

Thanks Lucianio!

Do you all think Lightning is enough or should we open it up to any weather related name (Hurricane, Thunderbolt, etc.)?

Thomas spotted it. Is this a campaign for aircraft with landing lighting, IP lighting or maybe nav lighting.

Sorry Michael

I have a Lightning in the interseptors but I have other EE lightnings in my stash, so I would join in.

Everybody's a smart alec.

I may very well do an EE variety. I've got an Airfix F.1a and F.6 in the stash. Got a lot of the Lockheed flavor as well though...

Given that they mean essentially the same thing, I've expanded the proposal to include Thunderbolts. Hopefully this will expand the pool of interested modelers as well as models.

Thanks Lucianio!

Do you all think Lightning is enough or should we open it up to any weather related name (Hurricane, Thunderbolt, etc.)?

Michael

I think this is a great idea, throw in the Typhoon and Tempest, maybe even the Beaufort as an obscure one (Wind Strength Scale) or the Chinook (a type of downslope wind), anything with a Wright CYCLONE powerplant, lots of options.

Cheers, D

I like the concept of Thunder(bolt) and lightning (very, very, frightening me, Galileo, galileo, Galileo, galileo, Galileo figaro - magnifico. Sorry )
Perhaps we could do a windy campaign after but for this one stick to T&L, maybe include squadrons that use T &/or L as a emblem or name. I think the windies have enough aircraft for their own campaign.
