I just have a few questions about the HH-60G in Afghanistan. I'm just wondering what grey they are and which model paint best reflects this, secondly is there any decals out there representing the USAF pedro's in A-stan and lastly would the cobra company updates be suitable for the Academy kit to make it a HH-60G in theatre.

Like this??

The color is called AFSOC (Air Force Special Operations Command) Gray. The closest model color is Testors Model Master Gunship Gray (FS36118).

Unfortunately, there are no updated decals for Pedros in A'stan. You can piece the numbers together with what is on the Academy 1/35 MH-60G decal sheet and make your own mustache, or paint it.

Yes, Cobra Company's update sets are still very relevant to build a modern HH-60G.

You can follow along with my earlier HH-60G build of an '03-'04 bird below. Current Pedros haven't really changed except for having the external gun mounts, which are also available from Cobra Company. You can see all the CC sets I used as well.

Update 2

Learned to keep it all in one thread after that. Finding them all is a PITA.

Good luck with it and be sure to post your pics and progress here.

Just waiting for the kit in the mail then save up some $$ for the sets.

Good deal. I plan on doing a modern Pedro as well...eventually. I need a break from helos for a while after completing my super-detailed MH-60S Knight Hawk recently.

We are starting work on that. No promises or timeframe. Any photos are encouraged to be sent to me at [email protected]

More info on the markings can be found at this older thread. I knew I had done some research on them, but couldn't find it earlier. Looks like the decals would be pretty easy to do using computer decal paper and a graphics program.

The rear cabin is all a medium gray with a dark green soundproofing on the roof and side walls. The sound proofing quickly fades to almost an OD green or brown color with use though. For the gray, I use a rattle can of primer gray. The cockpit is all flat black forward of the step in the floor; everything is black so NVGs are not affected by the lighter gray.
