To be honest I started with the wing assembly last weekend after writing the review, but today I added the first PE parts in the wheel well .. this is a great improvement over the plain kit part which is not really bad though.
I am done with the whole thing now but it is too dark to photograph. BTW I am also testing Tamiyas new Extra Thin Quick cement I bought this week ... this really stinks (~nail polish remover) and is probably something like MEK

Hi Steffen,
So you are only missing one accessory? The Miracle Paint Mask Camouflage masks?

Hi again
So now it is time to put some attention to the cockpit.
You know ..... so I spare myself the lament.
I started yesterday by glueing the rear deck into the right fuselage. Today I cut out the two bars in the gun turret opening and cleaned the area. I glued some PE to the floor and connected the assembly to the front bulkhead. This was glued in the left fuselage. The cockpit framing parts were freed of all parts that are replace or updated with the Eduard set using my trusty Hypercut saw.
Sidenote: I bought another one from HLJ just in case somoething happens, because it is such a valuable tool. I use it for almost all parts to cut loose from the sprues.
The frames were then glued into the fuselage halfs. So here we have the current state:
The seat bulkhead is just stuck in and not glued yet!
all the best

Steffen,
Fine work so far.
Where've I been - I didn't know they made a 1/48 one! I'll buy it for the box art alone!

Nice work thus far Steffen; if it is even close to your normal standards it will be a looker.

Thanky Fred!
Well, it has been advertized since months so you probably just had a blind eye for this kit.
Ernest: many thanks for the kind comment and the "Vorschusslorbeeren"...
I put on some paint and added some details in the pit (not much yet):
Then I started on the turret assembly. This is rather nice in the kit and looks pretty complex once done .. sadly everything will be black and not much to be seen again. I removed the details to add the Eduard parts. If you are good in detail painting better keep the details as these are far more 3D than eduard can provide in PE

Nice one Steffen
Our
Walkaround may be help for anyone building the kit. I think I'll have to bite the bullet and try to represent the rivets - I used to have to clean the Defiant occasionally when I was a volunteer at Hendon, and they were simply so prominent, they are my overriding memory of the beast.
All the best

I am slowly working my way through the instructions .. hope I won't forget anything...
I know the pix are pretty similar, but it is hard to photograph (the basecolor also is much more dull on the pix, but as mentioned elsewhere: I do not build to make it look good on pix)

Cheers Chuck! It is surely not as elaborate as your builds but I am happy with my results
I did not stop yesterday but came back to the bench later as I wanted to give the fuselage a bit of dryingtime so I added some more details from Eduards set and glued the fuselage together. The fit was good but needed a bit of persuasion here and there.
Meanwhile I have added the wing to the fuselage, but I will post pix of that later...

a picture of the fuselage and wing clamped together
The fit is not 100% but this is probably a building error on my side, but when glued and clamped there is just a small panel line seam (no filler will be needed here). I will need a bit Magic Skulp on the front though as I filed a bit too much to make it fit. You might notice some dark grey spots. This is just a bit of filler to get rid of a few imperfections.

Steffen----The Defiant looks great. Nice job on the interior portion of the model. Now you are making me want to get this kit.
Best wishes,
Ian

Thanks Ian!
Well, you have to do what you have to do
SO here it is without the clamps some cleanup and added control surfaces.
Not sure how to proced now. My normal procedure (adding canopy, masking, painting) probably won't work because of the turret. Chances are high that overspay would get inside.

I decided just to proceed with my usual.
here I have attached the cleat parts and added Eduards masks:
Then I masked teh middle section from the inside and rolled some kitchen paper to close the turret hole.

Steffen,
Finally got a chance to read through your build blog. As usual, your blog is well done with plenty of excellent photographs.
For someone whose not to thrilled with detailing interiors, you've done an exceptional job on this one.

Looking good so far Steffen and you started this five days ago and the main parts are near enough finished, it takes me that long to get anything out of the box
.
I take it there isn't any major problems during the build ?
