a friend of mine built the Airfix 1/24th scale Typhoon and gave me the pilot so I wanted to do a diorama of the pilot in a raft in the English Channel. The raft came from a 1/35th scale Dragon set, I cut it down to fit the pilot and look like a single pilot dingy. here it is so far.

Doug, this is a great project in my opinion. So many men of both sides had to face this fate not only during the BoB and many died because rescue didn't come or too late. This subject is often out of sight and forgotten.
I will follow your progress with great interest.

Looking good, can I ask what colours and paints you're using?. I've got a 1/48 RAF Typhoon pilot in my stash, but I don't consider myself much of a figure painter.

I am using Reaper paint, Cyan Blue, black, and white even in the highlights I use a little black to grey the color a little bit.

Doug,
Really nice work. The shading and highlights look good.
Are you planning to cut down his rump and heels so that t looks like he is settling into the pliable raft?
He does look cold.

Thanks, the shading is stunning. I'm trying to find a Vallejo equivalent, as that's a readily available range over here.
Your work is very inspiring if not a little intimidating, thanks for sharing.

The painting is beyond awesome, but I agree with Fred in that he seems to be riding really high in the raft. One other thing I'll mention--and I hate to because the paint job is so over the top amazing--but somehow the clothes don't look like they got a good drenching, which of course they would unless he landed right in the already inflated dingy.

Absolutely beautiful paint job - and I love that you are so creatively repurposing what had been a surplus figure!
